I won't be going to Texas again in a hurry

Do you see it and feel it out there NYboro? What's behind it? I don't recall it being as bad.
It's just got worse and worse since Trump. The Republican party are still embracing him and his wild stolen vote theories to try and suppress votes to keep themselves in power. There is very little in the way of a middle ground - we have to be careful what we say in most of the bars we go to. Even the (Irish) owner of one of our regular bars, made sure no-one else was listening when we briefly discussed it.

I get the impression it's a powder keg just waiting for a random spark.
And so many people with firearms! A recipe for utter carnage.

Surprises me in New York, or are you in a rural area?

Interesting you say that NY. About 2 years ago in the UK, I was working away and got talking to 3 americans here on business. I happened to mention a stat I had just read that more school children die from gun shots than servicemen. One of the yanks got very annoyed and told me so, in that uniquely american way, that I was ******* him off. I replied, perhaps stop killing your school kids then. He went apeshit and I just sat there at the bar a bit non-plussed. I just assumed it was idiotic rednecks that wanted to carry guns and anyone with an education would be against it. Seems I was wrong.

I have worked in NY, albeit 20 years ago and most of the americans I spoke to were dead against guns.

Depends to a large extent where you work and with whom. I work for a not-for-profit health system (hospitals and medical school), where the majority of the employees and certainly those I work with are "liberal". My son-in-law is FDNY and a lot of his colleagues are Trumpers......

I worked in one of the twin towers with an IT company. All well educated. Even in bars and stuff talking to locals, no one seemed keen on guns.

I am not sure if its perception or reality, but gun crime seems to have increased massively along with the NRA narrative in the last 20 years though so it may be very different now.

As much as you'll miss your daughter, it sounds like you won't be so glad to see the back of him.... ;)

It has - I've been here for 21 years and it's really only since Trump that things have changed.

Not now that anybody over 21 can carry a gun, with no training and no licence

The only remit is that you can't have a criminal conviction

Which means that any argument could easily escalate into a full-on gunfight, not only affecting those involved but passers by too

Probably the saddest law ever passed
While I agree with what you posted the link you posted said "Probably the saddest law ever passed". I would disagree and say the recent Abortion Law Texas passed is far worse. Denying woman the right to abortion after only 6 weeks. It's F***ing shameful.

Holidayed there many many times and worked overseas with American. Worked for US Companies on numerous occasions
But I'm starting to get fed up with them.
All that seems to come out of the US is negativity. Trump, Guns, Massacres, QANon, Police Brutality...... it's incessant.
Is it just me?

Not just you. My business has been closely linked with the US for many years, and the thought of going over there again becomes less and less alluring.

I used to just ignore the redneck/Republican/yee haw nonsense, but now it grates me more than ever.
