If Engel plays on Saturday i think he'll get absolutely tortured

we should not be scared going to SOS on Saturday. They are not Man City like some of here seem to think
This 100%, Sunderland are aggressive offensively and direct but they are also just like us and are weak at the back when under pressure, if we get into a gun hoe game it could be quite entertaining I.e. something like 3-3.

Any player currently available at the club who is or isn't a natural fullback will have there work to do but Tommy being an experienced pro I expect him to do his job, yes in a foot race Clarke will beat him but there is more than one way to skin a cat just have to be careful with bookings.

Left hand side is fair game, RVDB has done well, Bangura only played a 60/70 minutes I think so to early to judge and engel seemed to get the monkey off his back on Tuesday still has work to do defensively but he can play and has decent delivery as a team our defensive structure needs to be on point, I think Carrick will not change a winning team unless he feels its absolutely necessary.

Sunderland are a good team but on paper IMO there squad is not better than ours and we should not fear them, play our game, use the ball and we will get something from it, I believe we can win but we have to turn up.

I think no one ever says "just saying" without knowing they're being a bit of a twit
Considering the side bottom of the league made him look so bad he had to be taken off at half time, I don’t think it’s exactly a controversial opinion. Sunderland are one of the best attacking sides in the league, Engel should be nowhere near the squad for that game

Giles was a poor defender, would you have left him out last season?

So why the need for "just saying"?

Maybe Clarke / Hume and Ba / Huggins will have to worry about Engel / McGree and Smith / Jones?

By Clarke - in fact him and Roberts will probably take turns on him. I know he did well going forward on Tuesday but i don't think he's up to it defensively in a game away from home against two pacey wide players like they have. Just saying 🙈
Was Roberts pacy? Definitely tricky, but I must have missed pacy. I liked him when he was on form (it didn’t last though). He’ll score tomorrow now, no doubt… 🤣

Robert’s is a bit flashy now and again, Clarke is more dangerous but he is a reject from the premier league so not a world beater.

I feared the Sunderland away match more last season because we were on a good run and favourites which never works well for us in big games.

I think we will pass them off the pitch and turn them over tomorrow.

Just saying.

I think if Rav is back he might play left back. BUT Engel deserves to keep his place and there is absolutely no reason he couldn't cope defensively. We're basing his defensive acumen on 45 minutes when the whole team was equally as bad. We don't know what's gonna happen, just gotta have faith and trust
Rav needs to play against Clarke (not Tommy Smith) and I don't mind if Engel plays against Roberts as I don't think he's very quick (if he's playing on the right that is).

Yes they are first half the other night was one of the strangest performances i have seen at the Riverside both the players not wanting to pass to him and him wanting rid as soon as he did get the ball.
I just didn't see that as being the case at all. Firstly Fry and McNair held on to the ball to draw them out as Cardiff were ultra defensive. When they did come out we either pushed Engel higher up to stretch them and opened more space for us to play through the middle or he came short and got the ball a fair amount of times. I thought he played well first half and better second.

I thought he played liked a frightened man in the first half, too careful and scared to lose the ball - which he nearly did with two very underhit back passes.

Grew into the second half, and was ruthless getting to the loose ball and crossing for Jones to tap in.

Great to see. Just what he needed.

He was clearly cautious in the first half. Maybe told to keep it simple and work his way into the game. He deconstructed want hiding and made himself available. Mcnair, to his credit always have him an easy out.

In the second half he calmed down and played Mcgree in down the channel about 6 or 7 times.

His tenacity for the first goal was great and shortly after he win a ball against 2 midfielders he had no right to win.

He was never man of the match but in the context of his last game, he deserved motm for showing the steel and determination.

I think Carrick needs to be a bit cautious on this one - go against his natural instincts to attack teams. Sit in there and frustrate them, which is what Cardiff did to great effect. I think trying to go toe to toe with them on their own pitch won't work - Mogga is a wiley old bird and will probably be hoping we do just that no doubt. Keep it tight and unleash Lath for the last half hour when legs are tiring a bit. VDB in for Engel and Howson for Barlaser - have a sneaky feeling Greenwood will pop up with the winner for us in this one, thought he looked lively the other night, looks like the kind of player who can suddenly score out of nothing

Think we need to go 5 at back here and sit in a bit, they have better forwards than us. I’d start latte lath I’ve been critical but he’s burst of pace on Tuesday and goal give me a lot of hope although he seems to sometimes lack a football brain. If we actually learn to defend we have a chance. But I’d still sadly make them favourites

Cardiff did it to great effect apart from the bit where they lost 2-0
