If we dont go up.

I'm curious, whats the confidence within the fanbase if we don't go up to do a couple of things.

1) Keep hold of Michael Carrick
2) Keep hold of Chuba
3) Sign the loanee's permanently or on loan
4) Go again but this time be at the front of the queue for Auto's

Bonus would you have confidence in our ability to recruit both Manager and players if the worst happened?

Just trying to get the general feeling, although I personally feel confident we will go up
1) We’ll keep hold of Michael Carrick
2) Chuba may well be subject to a big big from a premier league club
3) Steffen will be prem, Giles will sign if Wolves stay up, Mowett may move elsewhere, Muniz will go back to Fulham and we’ll struggle to keep Ramsey and Archer
4) Plan B will get us there or thereabouts

——Smith—Fry—Lenihan—Giles—-
———-Howson—Barlaser————-
——-Forss—Hackney—McGree——
————-——Crooks———————

Then I think we would consider sales to bring in another 11 players with upto 4 loans
Dijksteel, McNair, Bola, Coulson, Jones, Payero & Chuba.

————-Peacock-Farrell—————
Knight—Philips—Greaves—Manning
—————Bird—Jashari—————-
——-Ogbene—Fleming—Elanga——
———————-Piroe———————

Tricky.. if we can keep Steffen and Akpom we’re golden.

We have had a fantastic season, look at the start and look now, unbelievable achievement from the team.
We will be in the play offs, 100% certain of that.
If we lose to Burnley, which we might it won't have any bearing on the play offs, we as supporters need to keep calm and be realistic, no knee jerk reactions (we are good at those) and let Carrick and his team sort things out.
I'm very confident for the remainder of the season....please join the optimism train ...

It’s all or nothing is it! Lol I think we’ll make the playoffs and only really fear Luton. Milwall in the playoffs would be tough as well. I hope uncle Neil gives Carrick a ring after the Coventry game!

I tend to fear the likes of West Brom or Norwich gate crashing the play offs more than the teams already in them, just feel they are more capable of beating us over two legs, just my thoughts, can't really justify them but they would make me more nervous

I think we’ll keep carrick no matter what. He would be badly advised to move elsewhere so early in his career. THIS WILL BE KEY. Whatever players leave, carrick will have his list of preferred purchases to fit into his system and then it will be up to Kieran Scott to secure the best options. I have faith in the new system!!!!

I think we will keep Carrick but the team will obviously look different, especially in the attacking positions. Hopefully Coburn and Hoppe can contribute next season, especially if Chuba leaves. I doubt Archer and Ramsay will be here and touch and go with Steffan and Giles. As stated, maybe we will buy Giles if Wolves are prepared to let him go for 3-4M. Barlaser should hopefully challenge for a first team spot and then maybe a couple of good loans to round it off.
However still hoping we can get promoted via the play offs. However need to be a bit more resilient away from home. If we get there, the away leg of the play-offs will be a big test. Despite our poor record at Wembley, I'm fairly confident we would do okay in a one-off final.

1. He'll stay. Look at Chelsea for someone who jumped too soon.
2. Depends on the fee and if we need/want to sell
3. The Villa lads, are they knocking on the door of the first team? Giles if not us will look for a permanent move
4. Go again. Build on the best season in years

* Theres some very interesting, humourous, unambiguous and candid comments from Carrick in today`s media conference. There were questions about Isaiah Jones, Marcus Forss, the U21 team, how Carrick manages defeat, Burnley, how his life has changed being the Head Coach. etc.
I will wait until tomorrow to put that up in the Match-Day Thread. Its a long but interesting article. * (y)

Some thought provoking questions here 👍

1. I think we will hold on to Carrick providing Gibson fully backs him and Scott in the transfer market, the summer will see a significant turnover in players though if we don’t go up.

2. If we go up Chuba will stay, if we don’t, I think we will take the money from a PL club IF one comes in for him, maybe a promoted club like Sheff Utd would, but only having one year means his price wont be as high as some on here would think. The money would be needed for rebuilding toward the squad.

3. Giles may be doable but I reckon he’ll be around the £8M-£10M mark, but again I think he will more likely be taken by a promoted team.
Loaning Steffen again might be the most achievable of the loanees returning, Ramsey and Archer will be taken in the PL by someone, probably on loan. Mowatt sent back to WBA and Muniz back to Fulham.

4. If we are still a championship club we will need quality recruitment, potentially needing to replace a keeper, CF, No10 and LB to start then adding to the squad to cover the bench.

I can see Finch being regularly involved from the bench, we need to assess if Clarke, Bola, Djiksteel, Jones and McNair will be around and assess if anyone can step up from the U/21’s other than Finch.

Scott is going to be busy, need to ensure we have people lined up for either scenario but I think it will be far easier if we go up than if we don’t as I see us being bereft of quality come June. Lets not forget play off teams have a shorter window of time than those in the auto’s and the good teams like Stoke, WBA, Norwich or whoever just misses out on them.

I must admit I am more fearful for us next year if we don’t go up than if we did.

1. Carrick will stay
2. Chuba, it will depend on offers the club receives, he's enjoying his football, however if a premiership club comes calling together with premiership wages then it might tempt him to leave.
3. Loans, Steffen will leave Man City, we won't sign him in the championship, Giles is a good championship player, if we don't get promoted I can see us signing him or another season loan, Villa players, not sure there Unai Emery type players, so we might have a chance for another loan.
Muniz and Mowatt will return to both Fulham & WBA.
4. Depending on who we sign in the summer, I can see a lot of fringe players leaving regardless of what division we are in, Jones, Bola, Dijksteel & Clark. I'm sure the process of recruitment will already be ongoing behind the scenes.

Blackburn and Norwich play each other next. Massive game.

I remember after losing to Norwich at Wembley thinking we'd had our chance and losing Bamford, Omerou, Vossen, thinking we could end up losing our better players like Ben Gibson and Lee Tomlin, meant having to start all over again.

We recruited really well that summer though, I'm sure we'd be in a good position to do the same this time around IF it happened again.

Unfortunately, I'm certain Chuba will leave if we don't go up. At his age he is not going to turn down the chance of playing in the Premier League if several clubs show an interest.

I think we may have a chance of reloaning Giles if Wolves stay up, possibly Steffen as well but I think Ramsey and Archer may get loan moves to Premier League clubs.

Coburn could be huge for us next season. He hasn't scored as many goals as I was hoping he would at Bristol Rovers but hopefully playing a full season is going to benefit him.

Barlaser hopefully will be more settled and may force his way into the team and hopefully Hackney will continue to improve, although we've seen it happen before - young players having one good season and then not kicking on. Hopefully that won't be the case with Hackney.

I can’t see how Josh Coburn fits in playing for this team in any way whatsoever

I think we'll probably turn down anything other than stupid money for Chuba. Yes it means risking losing him on a free (assuming he doesn't extend his contract), but possibly worth that gamble given how key he probably is to a promotion push.

Doesn't really matter whether he'll be tempted by prem money or not, we'd have to accept a bid first. I don't think he's the type to throw toys out of the pram and he'd be motivated to smash it to earn a lucrative move on a free anyway.

Plus if we went up next year instead of this, he'd probably sign an extension then.

So I think it's far from certain he'd be off if we don't go up. As others have said, it all depends on what silly money anyone is willing to offer. It might not actually be enough to tempt us.

We think he's incredible, but from other clubs perspective he'll be a nearly 28 year old with one prolific season in his career. Worth a punt if you can get him for a reasonable fee, but would another club offer daft money for him? I'm not so sure.

I think Carrick is here until a top 7 Premier team offer him a manager's job - we have only lost one manager to another club in my life time - Mclaren to England.

Chuba it would take a very big bid £14m? and we surely re-invest it, if he went. Chuba played well this season before Carrick was manager, most people didn't notice because he was soon injured this season.

We will possibly get Ramsay and Giles back next season on loan and bring in quality loans for the ones that leave.

It will be easier to attract talent this summer than last summer as we we are seen as a better prospect for promotion with STs up 20% to 25% and more points gained in 2022/23 than 2021/2 season.

Financially we are in a better place than we were last season - I would be very surprised if the squad was any weaker in August 2023 than August 2022. The increased ST sales (despite price increases), are evidence others think as I do on this.

This is based on the asumption we are not promoted - approx 60% chance - if we are promoted things will be much different because of the enornous financial windfall.

I really dont see the clamour from premier clubs for steffen.

You`re right.
We werent just fortunate getting Ramsey and Archer over the line: the connection with Danksy and the pull of Carrick - whom those kids would have watched on TV playing in the biggest competitions all over the world. With the set-up we now have - we are in a much better place to negotiate and bring in players of the right quality [mentallity / physical / attitude].

Carrick talks of his [staff] Team as one - of promoting from within, not just getting the cheque book out and buying players in. Not only that - but they all have the collective coaching skills and experience - to bring players on and develop them. To inspire confidence and belief. Just look at chuba! There may be players coming through the door who fans arent immediately impressed by. But a few months and we can expect a different player. We can turn water into wine.

Expect a strong focus on U21 and academy players coming through this coming season: he said as much yesterday. Carrick talks of "getting better" and constantly striving to up our game - increasing consistency and quality. No doubt we will see the exit of a number of players and probably see quality players in. We wont stand still or just tinker around the edges: this Coaching Team, along with our recruitment set - up [including the office in London], will have its web everywhere. It promises to be a brilliant summer and an exciting future - whether we climb up into the Premiership or not.(y)
