If we dont go up.

You`re right.
We werent just fortunate getting Ramsey and Archer over the line: the connection with Danksy and the pull of Carrick - whom those kids would have watched on TV playing in the biggest competitions all over the world. With the set-up we now have - we are in a much better place to negotiate and bring in players of the right quality [mentallity / physical / attitude].

Carrick talks of his [staff] Team as one - of promoting from within, not just getting the cheque book out and buying players in. Not only that - but they all have the collective coaching skills and experience - to bring players on and develop them. To inspire confidence and belief. Just look at chuba! There may be players coming through the door who fans arent immediately impressed by. But a few months and we can expect a different player. We can turn water into wine.

Expect a strong focus on U21 and academy players coming through this coming season: he said as much yesterday. Carrick talks of "getting better" and constantly striving to up our game - increasing consistency and quality. No doubt we will see the exit of a number of players and probably see quality players in. We wont stand still or just tinker around the edges: this Coaching Team, along with our recruitment set - up [including the office in London], will have its web everywhere. It promises to be a brilliant summer and an exciting future - whether we climb up into the Premiership or not.(y)
Been supporting a long time .
Seen the best football this season for a long , long time .
If we miss out I will stand and clap and cheer the players and staff for a great effort this season and a thank you for the effort and skill shown .
Then look forward to an exciting season to come .
Don't understand the negativity .

I dont see Chuba leaving even if we stay in the championship next season.
Hopefully he commits to a new contract before the season ends. He'll still get premiership offers if he maintains his current form. And we will still accept them if they are financially beneficial to the club. It's part of our new model.

Carrick would be insane to more on. I think it would actually do his reputation a bit of damage if he did that aafter such a short stint. I can see it being more likely if we miss out on promotion this season, have another similar season in 23/24 and still dont go up. If we do go up, this season or next, I can see him extending his contract by another couple of years. He's only 41 and still has a LOT to learn. Like, how he changes things after being on a 5 game loosing run for example. You dont want to experience that for the first time at Man Utd, Tottenham etc as your out of the door before you know it. Gibson will give him time to make those mistakes here and Carrick is fully aware of that.

Gilo to sign a permanent deal.
Steffan to leave
Archer to go back to Villa
Ramsey to sign another season loan with us
Obviously all guess work but these assumptions seem reasonable.

I think that Carrick will stay, Akpom will leave and we'll only get any of the loan players back if their parent clubs are willing to loan them out again, I also think that we'll probably be less impressive next season as so much of it is down to players that I don't expect to be here if we don't go up.

Hopefully I'm wrong on all of those except the first one, but I think it's vital that we go up this season.

I'm sure we'll still be in the mix next season, but I don't think we'll still be getting 2.17 ppg.

If we dont go up I'll be disappointed but Carrick and Scott have put together a great squad and got the best out of them - Ive every confidence they can do so again next season. Scott seems pretty good at finding good players and Carrick at moulding together a team, the model Gibson wanted has worked, it will keep working Im sure.

Not sure about Chuba. Obviously, his stock has never been anywhere near as high as it is and he's not young so he might think it's now or never to make it in the Premier League. But, he's made a big thing about finally feeling settled and wanted after a very nomadic experience up to now so maybe he won't want to start afresh somewhere new for the umpteenth time.

I'm curious, whats the confidence within the fanbase if we don't go up to do a couple of things.

1) Keep hold of Michael Carrick
2) Keep hold of Chuba
3) Sign the loanee's permanently or on loan
4) Go again but this time be at the front of the queue for Auto's

Bonus would you have confidence in our ability to recruit both Manager and players if the worst happened?

Just trying to get the general feeling, although I personally feel confident we will go up

1. No
2. Possibly
3. No
4. No idea

If we do not go up then i expect Carrick will be taken by someone in the Premier League - It all depends on West Ham as that is the most likely destination. Does Moyes have long left? No, would they want a perm in now or caretaker until end of Season and then Carrick. Either way that would be the risk - lets hope West Ham go down to reduce the risk of losing Carrick.

Who knows what Chuba we will get next season. This season has been fantastic and hopefully some more to come but lets not forget before this season we had nothing from him, lets not assume he can keep this level up but lets hope he bloody does - Im sure some lower half premier league club will be sniffing - Palace, Bounemouth, Everton, West Ham etc

We have been very fortunate at the success of our loan players this season, so much so the parent clubs are more than likely to have them in the 1st team squads next season. I dont see us getting them back again and replacing loan players is always a risk, its rare to get the success we have from 4-5 loan players.

The Championship is so hard to predict. I would love to say we will be amongst it again but who knows, we could have some very strong teams coming down next season and teams who have underperformed this season likely to improve. I would take the same again but for me a lot depends on point 1, do we have Carrick or not.

Yes! For me - the big change is the club philosophy. We seem to have moved on from the Pulis, Strachan, Warnock way of thinking. A longer term plan to build a squad around young, talented players as a core. It's an absolute joy to watch and I think whatever happens I hope we stick to the path

As, long as we have carrick we will be in a good place. I would be extremely surprised if chuba moved. If we dont go up we should be aiming to be champions next year
Chuba's 28ish I think, he'll never have been on mega money so this is his first chance to earn money that will set him and his family up for life and a couple of generations after.

I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to leave and earn 100k + per week. My guess is that if we don't go up we sell him for about 20mill in the summer. If we do go up then he'll sign an extension.

I would probably prefer to gamble on the possibility of losing him for nothing in 2024 but having hopefully another 25 + goal season for him next season.

it's a fair point - where would we be without his goals? 25+ goal strikers don't grow on trees

If we dont go up and a PL team comes in for Chuba Ive no doubt we will sell - its a dream move for him and unless he signs a new contract we will lose him in 12 months anyway

I should have probably added though, I'm not gambling with my money when I say to risk losing Chuba for free, Steve Gibson may well see it differently!
I've said it on here before: Chuba's goals are only half the story. His all round play is exceptional and he will be hard to replace. He may not get another 25+ goals (maybe he will) but he will be hard to replace in the MF area

Agree
And also, as said by others, he will get the chance to go to a Prem club on mega bucks. Frankly, he’d be mad to turn it down and we’d get decent money for him. Win/Win and leaves on good terms with the fans.

I think Carrick’s stock will also still be high and the chance to manage West Ham in whatever league they are in will be very tempting.

I'm hoping that he has Sir Alex as his advisor - Surely he would advise him to learn his trade where he is rather than follow the money.

Absolutely, we will arguably miss his presence in midfield more than his goals, as mad as that sounds, loads of our goals (loads of his own in fact) stem from Chuba first receiving the ball with his back to goal or on the half turn in the midfield area, then using his strength to spin and spray the ball to the wide attackers before making a charge into the box.

If chuba is not there then loads of those duels end up with the ball coming back on our goal rather than ending in a goal for us.

I think it's fair to say since MC has come in our form has been very consistent and apart from some away games we've been absolute class so I'm in no way swayed by one loss or a poor 20 mins that resulted in the defeat last week. The key is our composure, creativity and Akpom's goals are the core reason why we're a feared team. We're third for a reason-- we're very good and teams looking to beat us need some luck or perhaps other things to happen. I'm not too perturbed on what's in front of us as the teams below us have been in and out of form most of the season so I think it's all about not changing too many things for the run-in. I'm sure we're in a good frame of mind for this run in and more importantly we have no significant injuries, so keep thinking positive!

1finny

I know I am going to upset West Ham fans, but I don't think West Ham is a top 7 Premier League Club, For a long time we finshed above them. They get big crowds since moving, but rarely played in Europe, I can remember one cup final for them in the last 42 years.

Newcastle with the Saudi State coffers or MU with the Qater State gas money, I was thinking for M/C eventually if he contunues to do well, probaly in a few years time.
