Im worried 😟

My post wasnt just about possession we have played some good stuff and created chances, even yesterday Lenihan and Watmore do better with their headers we win that 2 nil after not playing great, yet Reading have 1 shot and win.

As a fan playing boring and winning is not really my cup of tea, I suppose thats why football is such an open debate as everyone likes and sees a different game.

I'm worried the morale is dipping sure.

But there are some good players in this squad. Don't pretend otherwise. There are some that are over estimated by fans and some that seem to get the ire of fans undeservedly.

Recruitment? I'm happy with the vast majority of what we have signed. I've seen fans writing off Hoppe after 29 minutes of football, I've seen Forss written off after 2 starts. Lenihan written off after 2 games. It's ridiculous.

We've made personnel and tactical changes and it's not quite bedded in yet. But, there are definitely signs that we are really, really close to being a good side.
You forgot Mowatt. He's shyte too apparently.

Out of all the summer signings only Giles has escaped ridiculous criticism - and this includes him scoring a mental og.

Stefan, Lenihan, Mowatt, Forss, Hoppe are all shyte.

And by a bizarre twist, Chuba is now the second coming.

I f*cking give up 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

You forgot the holy ghost Jacob greaves

We’re 2 pts from 15 Wake up and smell the coffee!
What does that phrase actually mean? I should forget making a decision on the way we are playing, decide to rock up at the training ground with a placard and shout across the fence to the players and management to “get a grip”? Do you want me to start booing from the off and chant “Wilder out”?.

All from the whiff of a cup of Nescafé?

Giles defending is absolutely atrocious,

Giles defending is absolutely atrocious,
Because he's a natural winger playing wing back - one of the 3 CBs and LM has to cover for him, that's the system and why we will probably not see the same rock solid defensive displays seen under previous managers like Karanka.

Mambo number 5!

Right, it is about time people accepted that recruitment, and yes retention, is something we never seem to get right. This season is no different, it has proved our Achilles heel for a long while.

we knew we needed:
1 x Gk… We signed one who flaps more than a tee shirt on a washing line on a windy day. Early days, but not the star suggested by Wilder and certain fans as yet. Jury is out.

1 x LB… Quality offensively needs to learn the defensive side quickly. I am ok with him but he needs a ball playing LCB quickly to support him.

1 x CB… Lenihan is trying too hard for me. He is a leader, combative but needs to sort out these rushes of blood he gets. Fry is more composed.

4 x ST. Oh dear. Hoppe is a corporate project. Wilder has as good as said so. Lessons still not learned by the hierarchy. Forss, ok as a reserve striker, but more a player suited to a counter attacking team, not a possession based one where the opposition digs in. Chuba has looked our best ‘new signing’ time will tell on him. Muniz for me, is a good signing, strong, creates opportunities on the shoulder of the last man for himself, yet again time will tell. Larsen, no idea on him, could be anything, but looks strong and a good finisher. Gyokeres or Riis are proven in different systems in the league, Viktor would suit better, but cost is the issue on them all.

1 x CDM… We are toothless and uncreative in the centre and more worryingly both the manager and the hierarchy have dropped the ball as i am worried it is being overlooked by the need for effective starting strikers and a LCB.

1 x box to box M/F Selling Tav as we did was stupid. Morally correct as a gentlemans agreement was probably made. To sell him before replacing him was daft. Secondly it meant the strikers we wanted values increased as we had £24M sat in sales. Naive does not cut it. Tav had 2 more years and we should have simply thought no and sold him next summer if not promoted. We are to soft as a club from top to bottom, even on the pitch we don’t use the dark arts as much as others.

If we bring in a striker capable of 20 goals a season, a ball playing LCB that can cover Giles offensive quality and a M/F who can be both a destroyer and creator at the same time (at our level) then we will fly up the league. However it will need the monies brought in from Tav and that idiot who signed for Spurs that Conte doesn’t want, to be heavily spent.

Recruitment has been a mixed bag and for me is a long way from seeing the marquee signing(s) Wilder was promised. Still time to get it right, but I can see Wilder walking if he is provided with yet more projects over absolute proven quality. As it stands I see us around 10th, the next signings are so crucial to a play off push and the boat needs pushing out to get it right.

Looking at the table, only a couple of teams are unbeaten. Top six have only won 2 or 3 out of their 5 games. Usually by now, there are a couple of teams that are 5 wins from 5.

This is going to be an incredibly hard league this year, each team capable of beating any other team.

So far, out possession % has been incredible but the final ball lacking. Oh, and a quality striker to finish. Pretty much the same as the last, say 10 years.

We are only 7 points off the top. Give it till Christmas and then start to worry. Very early days, new squad additions etc.

Excellent post col I suppose it all hangs on the incommers being of a higher standard than the mixed bag brought to the club this summer thus far

Not worried, we could easily be sat on 6 or 7 points now with a bit more luck and composure. My issue is once again the fact we start a season with recruitment nowhere near sorted. We keep players we know are going out too long, not good for morale, as we need to be certain the incomings are finally going to arrive. If Wilder had the team he wants at the start of the season rather than still waiting 5 games in for the names he wanted we would be in a very different position now. Don’t put all the blame on Wilder.

Performances mean nothing

We could play utter boring **** and win and id be happy

There is no point playing good football and retaining loads of possession if you lose
Agreed, but, our results will not continue like this. We've been punished for every marginal error and failed to punish teams when we have had the opportunity. This can be backed up the xG ratings:

Boro 1.73 - 1.52 West Brom : we had marginally better of the game but a draw was fair against a top side)

QPR 1.51 - 2.07 Boro : despite a poor first half, assisted by a ref error, we battered them second and should have at least equalised. Ultimately a defensive error and not bringing Willock down with some dark arts cost us)

Boro 1.81 - 0.58 Sheff Utd : We strangled their forward lines of opportunity, they had a world class strike and a rediculous own goal, we created enough to win but that Giles OG was a killer

Stoke 1.56 - 2.77 Boro : Again, the ref game them a goal lead, then a poor touch from McNair gave them an opportunity for the second. We dominated them apart from those 2 moments.

Reading 0.37 - 1.31 Boro : We strangled them of opportunities again, they never built any threat against us except for about a 3 min spell of corners and a couple of crosses, other than that nothing. One bad headed clearance and a perfect finish did for us defensively, but, it would have been ruled out with VAR because Hendricks was clearly in our keepers lie of sight and offside.

So in summary 3 of the games the opposition have scored double their xG, that is really unlucky. We've only beaten our xG once, Sheff Utd. Over the course of a season that should even out. Getting one defender and one finisher will change the results a lot too.

On top of that we've been done by the ref at QPR, stoke and reading robbing us of 5 points. Again that isn't likely to continue.

Yes, we should have done better yesterday, yes our results aren't good enough, yes some players need a long hard look in the mirror, but, we also shouldn't over react and be a bunch of bedwetters at the first sign of a downturn in results.

Not a true reflection of the performances ive watched but as we all know we all see a different game and can twist things to suit, what we want to see
Can’t twist to suit the league table? Everyone is seeing the same one?
