Jones - new 3 year contract

Yeah, McNair signed the year before Jones.

I'd like him to extend too, personally, though I don't think it's a huge shock if he does leave.
the problem with McNair is he's our highest earner, he'd need a ~50% wage reduction to stay, even then should we pay that for what is effectively a reserve as Clarke and Rav and maybe Lenihan would get in ahead of him.

Fantastic news. He has done really well to to get through all his difficulties in the past year and return with some solid performances.
Carrick and the coaches plus Mcgree befor the end if season and it sets us up for a really exciting summer.

Excellent news, need someone similar for the left now.......maybe that could be Bangura?
Exactly this. Our left sided midfielder has tended to be more of a crafty playmaker (Mgree, Greenwood, Ramsey). Would love to see us with raw pace on both flanks as well as Manu up top. Azaz would have a field day picking out passes for them all

I was looking at Jones' salary only last night and thought that he needed a rise. There's a couple of others on a low salary, particularly Van den Berg.

Tbf if we had decent offers for both Forss and McGree I wouldn't be surprised for that to be used to cover our shortfall and any decent summer signings.
Indeed but McGree is going to be in danger of running his contract down if he doesn't sign a new one this spring. Forss is contracted until 2026.

genuinely very happy about this... I thought with this current season going to pot that he would have had his head turned for a big deal

if we want to be serious about a challenge we need to keep our best players and he is the first on the list hopefully.

McGree just hasn't looked happy this season, the few occassions he's been fit. Carrick obviously dropped him when we signed Ramsey last year. I wonder if Carrick sees him as disposable?

Forss, I think he's been a real success on the right, the big question is does Forss see himself as a CF or a goal scoring winger. He has taken his career forward with us, from a bit part super sub, to a first team regular, while keeping his goals per minute up, and playing out wide. I'd be looking to keep him, he still has 2 years on his contract. We paid 3m, I wouldn't think of selling for less than 6m meaning only relegated teams or teams that sell a star player could afford him.

Both McGree and Forss are pre-Carrick, possibly signed with Wilder's tactics in mind? I agree regarding Forss, would actually like both to stay but if we are looking to bring in another two or three first teamers we can't keep everyone.

I wonder about the behind-the-scenes situation with McGree and the tournament in January. He was clearly injured before the tournament but wanted to play, and then he had a reinjury in the tournament and was again injured just a month or so later. I wonder if everyone was on the same page with his intention to play for Australia in the winter?

both players would bring in healthy profits but not strategy changing profits. McGree maybe 4-6m? Forss, maybe a little more 5-7m?

although I like Jones, I don't think him being first choice RW for a season is enough for promotion. He won't score more than 4-8 in a season, and that puts pressure elsewhere to score the goals. Forss will score enough, but he won't offer the pace we need up top

Riley's always good for a few goals too, and I expect Azaz to get double figures again. Interesting summer ahead!
