Jones - new 3 year contract

I know what you mean mart. Not sure I agree though. Whilst Jones isn't gonna get you 10-12 goals a season I think his pace dictates how teams play against us and opens space through the middle as he is often doubled up on.

He might not assist 15 to 20 goals but may well play a part in that many.

100% and added to the support he gives defensively. When he’s playing regardless of who the right full back is we look so solid on that side.

I don't know if he was full time at his non- league club but to me it feels like he is playing catch up a little since he joined us and within that he's had a really difficult year for personal reasons. You could be right but I feel like he has more to learn and give, he's had a relatively good season let's hope he can continue it into next year then we will find out if he has further potential imo
He’s absolutely playing catch up. He was never ever signed to a pro team as a kid, so he missed out on a couple of hours of pro training from Arsenal, or palace or even Charlton. He just played in the cages of south London.

Then he missed out on 3 or 4 years as a youth player instead he worked part time I believe while training and playing for that non league side. He’s done amazing to get this far with so little training up until 4 years ago

Fantastic news 👌

We are a far better side with him in it. He gives us something not many at the club can. Yes he can be frustrating with his final ball or finishing. Yet if he wasn't he'd be signing for someone else.

He's a very good championship player who cost us 'buttons' to sign. He's been terrific value for money (money used loosely).

Hopefully Howson next. I believe Clarke is entering his final year? I'd love him to pen a new deal aswell.

Mcnair is 100% leaving. That's with my blessing as we simply can't afford him. The likes of Mcgree and Forss and kind of 'meh'. Great players yet injury prone. Also entering final year so sign up or flog.

Clarke has a one year extension option, so I'm not sure they'll offer a new contract just yet.

Maybe a bit cautious after that serious injury.

If we have The spine of Dieng, Van, Hackney, Azaz, Jones and Latte plus whatever is brought in at the end of the summer transfer window we will have a right good go at it next season. At most we cant afford to lose more than one of those.

It's a strange one that he never plays on the left under Carrick especially as he likes Forrs on the right. I remember his debut was on the left opening game at Fulham a few seasons ago and he was a game changer and also remember him playing left wing back away at Coventry where he did well. Also said on Tees a couple of months ago that Carrick thinks Forss best position is coming from the left although I'm not sure that they got that right (left).

Happy Jones has signed a new contract, still think he's our best attacking option by far, shame he's so inconsistent but if he wasn't he wouldn't be playing in the Championship.

I might be in the minority here, but i'm honestly not bothered if McGree leaves. We've barely seen anything from him this season and if the rumours of him still having a sulk on about not being allowed to move last summer are true, I don't want him at our club. Been re-watching our 96/97 season review and wantaway players like Emerson are bad for the team.

Confirmed wages, or speculated wages? Interested to know what they're on!
I was told a while ago £15000 per week was our ceiling. There's players pre that structure like Howson and Paddy on more but players since 15. I your head for a high level footballer you think that's low but it's 60k per month, that's mind blowing, that's 2 years wages for me and I'm 'experienced' and have 2 degrees in the field I'm in. How I wish I'd been a footballer. I'd do it for my sh it current wage in a heartbeat. What a job.

Also the play style is a bit iffy, if they find someone who can play out a bit more calmly they may get rid
For a championship defender I would say Clarke is right up there in being able to play out from the back.

He's big and bald and great at the traditional defender stuff but I think that blinds some people as to how comfortable he is on the ball.

The thing is most of Clarke's games have come without Hackney in the team who is key to us playing out from the back and must make things a lot easier than when it's O'Brien and Barlasar. Clarke is very brave on the ball but as he's a bit 'Robbie Mustoe' (ungainly) and gives the impression he's not good on the ball when he's no worse than the others.
