Matt Crooks - Medical

Looks like could play main striker, if required. Tall, with good movement. Scores a lot from outside box as well, a Wing upgrade?

Definitely going ahead (assuming he passes medical). Was told about it yesterday. Unfortunately same person also told me 3 Prem clubs incl Leeds are after Wood and we're likely to only get 1m for him. Hope he's wrong on that one

£5m + for Wood , not a chance of him going for £1m .
Ikpeazu 6/5 and Crooks 7/3 had 13 goals 8 assists between them last season , albeit in poor teams , but both will need to step up for us to improve

Not sure, considering he still has a year left on his contract but he mentioned the Harvey Elliott tribunal setting a precedent when he went from Fulham to Liverpool. They only got £1.2m up front for him. Maybe at Wood's age transfer fees are still set by tribunal. Not sure, don't profess to be an expert!!!

It's scandalous that clubs can develop players, put them through the academy and then have them move on for peanuts. But then if your manager isn't going to play them they're gonna look to move.

if clubs are offering 1m with a year left, then no point in selling. We would probably get the same if he leaves after his contract ends.

I think if he were to leave in a year, then yeah, that might be the fee. But, he still has a year left so I'd be amazed if we agreed to a fee like that.

I'd like to see him given his chance in pre-season and take it.
 
Hardly suprising this one. The shear amount of Rotherham games on TV at the back end of last. I always thought he stood out. Tall and gets around the pitch.

Also has a decent ability to hey to get into scoring positions. That said missed a few chances in that final run in (as did Smith). They did lookRotherhams best 2 players.

Crooks, Ameobi, Ikpeazu, Fry, Hall.....we're gonna be a menace at corners and free kicks on the end of those Payero dead balls

We have been linked. I think the issue is fee as only one year left on contract. The gist seems to be around 1mil (ish).

We may have bid. The Rotherham gaffer was moaning that clubs had made cheeky bids for players that are taking the p*ss😂

I'm not sure if Fulham have a Cat 1 Academy. This dictates the price of young players. Basically it's really hard to rip off fellow Cat 1 clubs. I'd really hope we are trying to tie Wood down but it's his choice and his career. His family obviously like it round Teesside so hopefully we can keep him. He looks so good whenever I've seen him. His passing is amazing.

One thing that worries me is Warnock saying the other day he didn't like our second half at Bishop Auckland. He said there was too much passing. I thought it was lovely and created loads of chances. The worry is a year of Warnock might impact the progression of some kids and make some think about moving on.

Second half was excellent. Great to watch, scored twice as many goals and they produced fewer chances. It would be better for the youngsters to move on for their own sakes. Shame as it'll take the club backwards.

I agree entirely, Warnock football is very formulaic, it's not what a lot of players want to be involved in. Of course when you are winning you will put up with it, but when you are not it can be disheartening. From a young pro perspective it's far from the beautiful game that you dreamed of playing. I hope Wood, as a local lad, knowing his Dad played for us, will be enough to stay loyal, and knowing a new coach might just like him a bit more.

If we’re going to lose him for that price, I’d be demanding a big sell on percentage and plenty of incentives to top it up. He’s as talented as anyone that’s come through the academy in my opinion. Hopefully we can tie him down, but I fear his head has been turned by a Premier league contract that we can’t even come close to matching.

Maybe we are hoping that if we get promoted, we can match that contract?!
