The 21-year-old American, who has won six caps for his country, enjoyed a real breakthrough for Schalke in the 2020/21 campaign, where he scored six goals in 22 Bundesliga games.

A move to Mallorca followed but things haven’t really gone to plan for Hoppe in Spain, with the striker making just five appearances in the previous season.

Despite that, Chris Wilder is keen on bringing Hoppe to Teesside, as reporter Tom Bogert revealed that Boro have lodged a bid for the youngster, as they look to seal a deal for Hoppe ahead of the competition, which includes north-east rivals Sunderland.
 
Not a lot to go on with the clips available but he looks a good finisher and quite intelligent with his passing and finishing. Looks like he was being watched by some big teams in the past. I think coming from the german league he should adjust well to the championship.

Looks a good low risk signing, be interesting to see how he gets on.
 
Never heard of him and stats aren't great BUT, under this regime im not seeing that as us signing some duffer i'm seeing it as the new scouting network have seen something, Wilder has seen something and we're potentially unearthing the next Gyokeres before we get quoted 15/20m for them. I'm all for the new approach.

Plus there's a YouTube video of him been chewy which i can get behind. I want us to have a couple of pricks in the team that everyone else hates. Lenihan is a big nasty sod, he's vocal and he'll drag us through games, if we have a cocky little Yank upfront i'd love it.

Well exactly. Gyokeres stats weren't great until they were, which was last season. As I said earlier in this thread, anyone who can score twice against Kevin Trapp can't be all bad. He's got a Bundesliga hattrick on his CV as well.
 
Yea lets have Forss and Hoppe, Watmore/Akpom/Coburn and if we get a prem loan like Muniz or Armstrong too, even better. Let's get them both done today Boro, be like the JFH/Viduka days of yore

100% this for me, centre half, DCM and ST you need at least one nasty battler in there who other teams don't look forward to playing against.

We lost games last season by not being up for the fight, we are far too nice and quiet, including our captain.
 
Could Hoppe be brought in as a potential replacement for Tav? Maybe we see him as a deeper player than he’s been used previously? A tricky dribbler with a decent finish might fit that Tav role and also give us a bit more bite upfront if injuries hit
