I'm not saying it should have been, just that it would have been a nice touch, as it would have meant a lot to a young kid, who was devastated at the prospect of his idol leaving the club.I don't think responding to fan mail will have been particularly high up on his list of priorities at the time. Sounds like he was going through hell.
I think it was a really generous move by Sky to keep Merson on when they had their reshuffle and got rid of Le Tis et al; they obviously saw it was important for Merson to have that job to try and keep him on the right path.
Maybe I was a bit harsh to say it says a lot about him as a bloke, but the way he went about leaving the club and then slandering us left such a bad taste in my mouth. I guess I can still remember how upset I was at the time.
