Merson - Hooked

I don't think responding to fan mail will have been particularly high up on his list of priorities at the time. Sounds like he was going through hell.

I think it was a really generous move by Sky to keep Merson on when they had their reshuffle and got rid of Le Tis et al; they obviously saw it was important for Merson to have that job to try and keep him on the right path.
I'm not saying it should have been, just that it would have been a nice touch, as it would have meant a lot to a young kid, who was devastated at the prospect of his idol leaving the club.

Maybe I was a bit harsh to say it says a lot about him as a bloke, but the way he went about leaving the club and then slandering us left such a bad taste in my mouth. I guess I can still remember how upset I was at the time.

Despicable comments
Which part is despicable

Weak... Junkie, Alcoholic. Addicted gambler. Put his own needs before his wife and family.Blames every man and his dog for his own problems.
Rent a quote.... pops up on various shows especially when they want something negative saying about someone.

Regurgatates same stories to make money..... heard the Gascoigne and Tony Adam's stories from him in 2 books and various newspaper "exclusives".
Worst thing of all when he left he slaughtered his team mates manager and club blaming them for his problems. A culture of drinking and gambling he said which had us wondering about our club.
Years later he said he made it up to try and justify his move.
Horrible man and I wouldn't let him in the ground ever again.
Good footballer though.

I thought that Colgate, and I hope it helps him.

Disgraceful views. Every man who gives into addiction or has mental health problems are weak?

people wonder why there’s a stigma around mental health. I believe your comments, in particular @Blf are distasteful at best

tell you what it weak, judging a man you’ve never meant behind an anonymous user name. Well done pal 👏🏻
I suppose nobody is culpable for any of their decision making then?! He didn't have to give the interviews he did, he didn't have to slate the club that had given him support with his issues, he didn't have to stand on TV saying how he wanted to spend the rest of his career with us and manage us one day, to force a move 2 months later.

Yes he has issues, yes he was an addict, but you can't put the blame for all his poor life choices on that, I mean sometimes people are just bad people who happen to have issues that brings the worst out in them. So many mistakes in his life you can't just blame it all on the drugs, gambling and mental health problems. He has to take some accountability for his choices

It's almost as if addiction makes people somewhat selfish.

saw him on sky yesterday and thought how much he looks an old man, don t watch the football show typically but they were all in suits etc a new image i guess and merson struck me as dressing like an old man in the 1960's
I honestly did a double take, I though it was Mark Kermode for a second.

We had Darren Williams amongst others round ours for a BBQ before he got banned.
Spent most of his time on the mobile to Merson.
They were all in it and at it and made the mistake of getting caught.
Goes on all the time but most use a bit of common sense and don't get greedy........ but Williams and Fallon etc did and got mixed up with Merson etc so it was only a matter of time.

One of the best players ive seen in a Boro shirt. Cant believe we doubled what Arsenal where paying him to sign him. I suppose you get what you pay for look at some of the crap weve had last few years.
