Mowatt

Agree. Kept it simple, keeping possession and found a man with nearly all his passes. Much easier game when you have and can keep the ball.

He looked lost playing as one of the 3 midfielders in Wilders team, however I said when Carrick first arrived that he may just be the man to get the best out of Mowatt.

Not getting carried away but he looked good playing in that deeper role alongside Hackney.

I’m at the point where I am ignoring whatever form anyone was in under Wilder, the place was clearly toxic when he was here and with every week that’s passed since the Burnley nonsense last Spring I like him less and less.

Credit, we'll done son..... Players do read, credit where due
He did really well today. Hats off!!! Thought be was a different tbh. Played great, looked every bit the Alex Mowett of old.

Genuine contender. Put his bodysuit on the line today.. a player coming back from injury and out on loan. RESPECT

Yeah credit where credits due, he played that position well today, but it was against Wigan, however that performance must give him confidence.
He was a really good player for Barnsley and maybe he can kick on again..

It would be interesting to see how Crooks would perform if he's given a run in Carrick's side.

I know he seems to still be struggling with his fitness at present, and Carrick will want to stick with the current formula, but Crooks had really lost his way playing under Wilder, like so many others. Would be great if we could see a return of the Crooks we all saw during the early days of Wilder's tenure.

I thought Mowatt was an adequate replacement for Johnny, nothing more than that. I was guilty of watching for him attempting a forward pass (it took him quite some time) and I blamed him for the mess that lead to their goal when he got himself into a position where he had to hoof for touch and didn't get it very far. Probably a tad unfair.

Hopefully Howson is back on Thursday.

It did make me wonder about concussion assessment. I understand he went off as a result of that (accidental) blow to the face he took at the end of the 1st half? Which begs the question why did he play out the half?

Although he was okay, compared to howson he is considerably slower on and off the ball, and was far more conservative with his passing. Not sure if it helped him being on the right of the two holding mids. He did put in a couple of good tackles and passes with the outside of the boot.
