Mr Preston is standing again!

Can I be mayor please? I don't live in Middlesbrough and I'm not a hedge fund manager but I am independent and I do live quite close to a supermarket.

It's a shame Preston can't find something else to do or another town to bother. He's a terrible mayor. Why would an elected leader with so much to do - spend so much time marketing himself and engaging in squabbles with everyone he works with? The answer is simple - because he's useless.

It will be interesting to see if he gets re-elected as his support will not be the same as it was. Of course, he spends so much money and time promoting himself - because he wants to do well for Middlesbrough. He also gave up his career as an 'International financier' so he can fix all the potholes in the Boro 😆

Mayors are an outdated concept anyways.

It is funny though that a lot of the doom merchants in this thread don't even live in the area or haven't for a long time.

If you're looking to buy yourself a bit of doom then I can get it for you for a very reasonable price Randy. I know all of the doom merchants around here and most of them owe me a favour or two.

I've got one on a retainer. But thanks for the offer regardless.

Do you think those that don't live in the area more than likely have interests in the area? Family, employers etc?

These people you speak of aren't on a Boro message board by accident, so don't quite understand your position. Are the views of people only valid if they live in Middlesbrough? If so, why do you chime in with your twopenneth?

I'm genuinely independent, so vote for me. We've never had a bum faced mayor in this country before. It's long overdue. Free balloons for everyone if I get elected.

Whatever happened to him

He was out of his depth and not my type of person at all.
Ray Mallon served three terms and was very popular. He was unofficially supported by a lot of the Labour Party in Middlesbrough in a bid to get rid of supposed Labour people who were in control. The people in control were useless (like Preston) and were mostly non-political, although quite a few ended up trying their luck with the Tories.

Apart from his general incompetence and unsuitability for local government, Preston's biggest problem is his personality. He spends a crazy amount of time marketing himself instead of getting on with his job. But he's also incapable of bringing the council together so it could perhaps work coherently and do his job for him. Instead, he constantly falls out with people and plays the victim to the supporters he has harvested on social media. That's why Facebook and similar is so important to him. If his Facebook page fails - so does he.

By the way, in general - independents are by far way the worst type of people to elect. The reason being is that there are very few genuine independents. The majority of them bear some sort of grudge and many have personalities that are not conducive in terms of working with others. When you bring these factors together it results in chaos, and a poor and underperforming administration.

You're calling someone who goes to Boro matches and is a bigger Boro fan than you will ever be a shrill

It's exactly what you did to Erimus

Come on 🤷🏻‍♂️

What exactly did I do to Erimus? Perhaps you should ask him if I ever did anything to him, I think you're getting me confused with someone else so I'll await your apology.

In regards to being a Boro fan, I've had my ST since the Southgate days thank you very much, anything else you want to accuse me of?

Being tied to political party like labour or Tory may influence peoples decision making. Unfortunately local politics are just a pound shop version of westminister.

People who moved away have valid views, perhaps the fact that Middlesbrough is rapidly declining under Preston is part of the reason they left?

I suppose it depends when they left, I lived in Hemel Hempstead but have no opinion on it now
