Millwall Match Pack!

Boro look to banish the away day blues tomorrow when we take on Millwall. Here's all the key pre-match travel and pub information you need to know ahead of Saturday's trip to The Den. Kick-off is at 3:00pm.

Travel

The best way to get to The Den is via a short train ride from London Bridge station to South Bermondsey station. The service is ran by Southern and should take around 5 minutes.

The Den is around 10 minutes walk from South Bermondsey - there is a direct walkway specifically built for away fans which takes you directly to the away end and back to the station afterwards.

Getting to London Bridge isn't as easy as it used to be given the Bank Branch of the Northern Line is closed for the foreseeable. If you're coming from the north into Kings Cross then you can still catch a direct Thameslink train from St Pancras to London Bridge which should take around 15-20 mins. Make sure you catch the right train or you could be stuck on one which takes 40 minutes.

If you're already in London then make sure you get yourself onto the Jubilee Line as that's still stopping at London Bridge. If you're coming into Kings Cross and adamant you want to use the tube then get the southbound Victoria line to Green Park and then change onto the eastbound Jubilee line to London Bridge.

Pubs

There are no recommended away pubs around the ground. If you want to get a pre match pint then we recommend drinking around London Bridge where there are plenty of pub options for away fans.

Some of our usual favourites when we go to Millwall away are Bunch of Grapes (SE1 9RS), The Old Kings Head (SE1 1NA), The George (SE1 1NH), and The Barrowboy and Banker (SE1 9QQ). All of the pubs are within a 5-10 minute walk of London Bridge station.

Please note The Barrowboy and Banker can be funny about football shirts so if you're planning on going there you're best off not wearing any colours.

There's reduced escalator access on the Jubilee change at Green Park and there may be some signs directing you on a detour (there's no access at some times during the week).

It may be busier at London Bridge / Borough Market than normal as the rugby is on later in the day and a lot of people do head there beforehand. I was in Borough Market before the Wales match and it was rammed.

Thanks for info -

I haven't been to Millwall for a while and always like to look around etc.
If I arrive at South Bermondsey, do I have to go straight to away section or can I just wander around? .
Same goes for after the match? Might head up to Canada Water instead.
I like to just melt into the background and hate to be funnelled by stewards / police etc

Whenever I went a few years back it was always home and away fans at South Bermondsey station afterwards. I think it might be tricky after the game to do your own thing though, seem to recall it was "station or bust" :)

Maybe play it safe and wear a flat cap? You'll be back within the confines of New Cross in no time :ROFLMAO:

get the Bermondsey Mile down yer pre match - get away from the over priced fake Borough market, its value is long gone.

Very good shout if you like your fancy craft beers. I know my fellow travellers won't go for it.

Had a day during 2018 World Cup wandering up and down there.

When you come out of South Bermondsey, just bear left, rather than right, and you can mix with the locals and take in their culture.
Not so sure about after the game.

The Market Porter was always a big MSS favourite for Millwall.

Remember the old Den back in bad old days, MIllwall fan's stood at the top of the terrace waving dockers' hooks to intimidate away fans entering the ground. Never a place to show your colours or reveal your accent back then.........

This (y)(y)

Can highly recommend Kernel, Partizan and Brew by Numbers - few new ones to add to the list as well by the look of it. Years since I've lived down that way but still miss it.
👍

Four Pure taproom around South Bermondsey is good too and very convenient for the Den.

Cold Blow Lane was very aptly named. The Den was a bleak ground.

The beer mile is great and a few of those breweries would be my go to for this match rather than hanging around London Bridge. You will be able to walk to the ground and have a wander around before the match (although that area between Bermondsey, Deptford, New Cross isn't the most picturesque!)

After the match it may be a bit more tricky to go anywhere other than the London Bridge platform on South Bermondsey station. You may need to have a word with a copper to let you out.

Ps there's not much around Canada Water way other than new build flats. There used to be a big street feast but I think that's closed down now.

Whilst that area is recommended and walking to the ground is an advantage the train to South Bermondsey from London Bridge is, what 7 minutes, and makes Borough area the obvious and safer area to drink in On match days.

Agreed I wouldn't be walking round Bermondsey after the match. at least until about 7pm when the fans have calmed down a bit and you're no longer Boro fans but just people enjoying a pint....

There's nothing wrong with MSS' London Bridge advice, but the brewery option is a good shout if you're in to that sort of thing. The knuckle dragging Millwall fans don't frequent those places.
