NYSD Cricket Quiz Question

Richie Richardson played for Blackhall for one season in either the late 80s or early 90s. Then they signed Clayton Lambert, who invented the switch hit shot (years before Pietersen) when he subsequently moved to Normanby Hall.

Are you sure he’s not on the NYSD league website. Roger Harper did play for Blackhall thou

Lambert was insane in the NYSD. Loads of runs and wickets, if I remember correctly.
I was lucky enough to play with Lambert. He was unbelievable.

Clayton Lambert, who invented the switch hit shot (years before Pietersen) when he subsequently moved to Normanby Hall.

Played in a cup with him against Usher Moor (think it was them) their Pakistan spinner had taken a 100 wickets the season before. First ball of the game Lambert reverse sweeps him out of the ground the poor lad couldn’t believe it.

Well, admittedly I can't find any reference to it, but I'm 99% positive he did, as it was around the time I started playing. Never saw him play, though, so I can't say for definite.

Unless he was supposed to sign and it ended up falling through, I suppose. See, you've got me doubting myself now!

We all used to call it a reverse sweep too but, with the benefit of hindsight, it wasn't, it was a switch hit. He used to change stance mid-delivery and play you right handed.

I remember talking to the guy who was the main NYSD umpire at the time. He said they'd had to contact the MCC for guidance on the application of the LBW law when he was doing it.

My brother as a young 18 year old bowled Lambert when he was on single figures. Still to this day won't shut up about it.

Not sure it's the wicket he thinks it was though as Lambert was walking down the wicket to him at the time such was the distain for his bowling. Still, it does t say that in the scorebook!

Yeah but I thought he could have been a sub in a ODI final....it was Ricky Pointing he caught out with Harmison off the field (having a rest) 😜 The Aussies were in uproar as Pratt was a specialist fielder He was on the open topped bus with Flintoff and the rest after the Ashes win....He still plays in the NYSD
He was badly missed by Richmond early on last season after he broke his arm(?). England had a real dry spell in 50 over cricket in the 2000s. Won a 2020 World Cup but did nowt in 50 overs format during Pontings time at Australia
