Off to see Neil Warnock tonight

WOW! they say don’t meet your heroes.. unless your hero is Neil Warnock!

What a guy! Met him in the VIP lounge with my two lads, very accommodating and spent quite a bit of time with us answering questions and making us laugh. He is genuinely magic. I told him how gutted I was when he left.. ‘not half as gutted as me son’

Btw there was LOADS or Boro fans in last night.. didn’t feel like an away game. I think Warnock and Foster were surprised with how many were there tbh. Standing ovation at the end nothing forced and you could see Neil was genuinely moved and taken back.

Genuine laugh out loud moments from start to finish ‘Bury’ ‘Dog Shyt’ ‘Next Slide Please’ lol even some of his biggest critics on here would have had a belter of a night. Criticised the government, said he was brought up Labour through and through. Ooohhh!!

I was surprised with how early Kieran Scott got involved with the club.. it was in the summer with Sporar, Siliki and all that lot. I asked him about Siliki.. and he said “who”?
James Lea Siliki - “who are you on about now” lol.. the French lad.. the midfielder
He’s face changes.. recognition.. eyes roll, teeth grit.. laughs.. “he was no player his was he.. absolute rubbish”

He remarked on how quick Bausor was to get Keiron Scott’s players through (or ones that the club had identified) the one that upset him the most was Keiffer Moore, after clearing out the big earners and identifying cheap solid performers, he was the one that would be the final piece in the puzzle. More expensive than the rest but value for money, mentioned about his wages and the offer.. then Bausor low balled the offer.. Cardiff offered what he wanted.. only then did we match the offer and we ended up losing him. The Sammy Ameobi deal was done in 24 hours.. he said he’s never had a transfer done for him that quick. Bausor’s choice, he knew his agent etc. “First day of training and he’s fcuked his knee”

I asked him if he still spoke to Steve Gibson.. he said he’d sent him a few messages and he knows he dropped a bollokc getting rid of him when he did and the way everything was done. Warnock was saying he was genuinely hurt and really bitter about not getting to finish that season, as good as a team as he’s ever had.. no one in that league would have bothered them. He likes Carrick and thinks we could still do something this season, very complimentary about the youngsters.

by the sounds of it if a championship club needs saving from relegation he would come running, February to May next year watch this space. (he nearly joined Barnsley)
Great write up Newy,👍Like I've said many times. Neil did really well for Boro under difficult circumstances and unearthed some diamonds. He should have been given more time and some money to spend !

Thanks Newey. It did seem strange for us to tell Warnock he was getting the season and then pull the plug in November, maybe we thought Wilder was ‘too good to lose’?! Anyway, all water under the bridge now and genuinely glad we had Warnock manage us. Any idea why Wilder and him don’t get on?

Aww Cheers Erimus. He spoke highly of Gareth Southgate when it came to being England manager.. as good as we could get. He said he’d never take the England job.. a poisoned chalice. But he’d be open to managing another country..

When my daughter introduced me to NW we spoke a while & he said I'll tell you why we dont het on a little later, sadly he didnt, I dare say one day it'll come out

Wilder took Warnock’s job.. I’m not sure what Wilder’s ‘previous manager’ crack was all about. I think it’s because Chris is a total dikchead.

He didn't drop a *******, he was 100% correct to get rid. We were going nowhere under Warnock and had suffered some shocking performances like Birmingham at home, and that was on the back of a poor final third of the previous season. At the time the fans were close to turning on Warnock, just like they were close to turning on Wilder before Gibson pulled the trigger. There seems to be a lot of revision of history by many people on this board where it comes to Warnock. Ok, in the long term Wilder didn't work out but that doesn't mean to say we weren't right to call time on Warnock. He should have been gone in close season, particularly if we were going in a different direction. I would have liked to think someone has asked him the awkward Akpom question at these events. He can bleat all he wants about the recruitment, but they identified Akpom as he said during the second half of the 2020-21 season and slagged them off for it. Now he's best thing since sliced bread.

It was more of a Bausor/Scott decision and Gibson had to back them.

Akpom came back from out the cold raring to go.. I don’t think his change came from any manager in particular tbh. A change in mindset perhaps.. he is defo a different player.

He's playing like he was when he first came to the club when he was partnering Assombalonga up front in September 2020. Both his and Britt's form fell off a cliff when he changed tactics and alternated them each week playing up front on their own with Marvin Johnson and Djed Spence either side. This was neither players game, playing as a target man. Slowly their confidence got worse and worse as the goals dried up and Warnock regularly slagged them off in the press. So the reason Akpom is playing better now is because he is being played upfront with other players around him, and has gained some confidence getting some goals in the early matches.

It makes me laugh these quotes in the Gazette this week from Warnock saying that the players needed to be shown "a bit of love" as an explanation for why Carrick is getting more of a tune out of them than Wilder did. It's not like he showed a bit of love to all of our players, yes he did with his favourites, but plenty others were regularly thrown under the bus.
