OFFICIAL Tour de France Thread 2022

I think Alpecin are going for a more measured approach rather than just letting MVP off the leash and it all being about him. I can't imagine they think he has yellow jersey ambitions though so they must let him do his stuff at some point.

He’s been looking after Philipsen so far but today won’t be his day so expect him to have his own desires on today’s stage.

It's an interesting stage ahead given the potential for some big time gaps developing if you don't have good position leading to the cobbles or mechanicals knocking you back.
Be very interesting to see how Jumbo approach it given the make-up of their team. WvA could well win the stage the form he's in, but will JV try and keep their GC contenders in it and stop WvA going for it?
Ineos and others could cause havoc if they really attack the stage.

Well everybody knows that VdP has been targeting this stage and will go all out to win it with the backing of his team. The same can't be said of Van Aert as the team has to ensure that Roglic and Vinegaard do not lose time. However, rather than being defensive I have a feeling Jumbo might try to do some sorting before they hit the pavé to lessen the risk of unforeseen incidents. The problem is that there are four Belgian teams (and others) who will also be targeting the stage with their own tactical plan, so basically I haven't got an f'ing clue except that it may well be the most exciting stage of the whole Tour. Here's hoping.

Unbelievable ride by WVA to keep himself in yellow.

I felt for Roglic. Abandoned by his team until it was too late. Vingegaard clear team leader now.

Disappointed Ineos didn't assist in pulling that gap back. Given that there was only 15 secs gap in the end, surely if Thomas and Pidcock had got on and assisted they could have pulled it back together. Or is WVA just that good that they couldn't match him?

Devastating stage.
It was always going to be difficult to beat Pog.
JV will no doubt try something which could be fun But, sadly, can only see a procession from here.

JV are in the old Movistar scenario now. One leader far enough down that they'll have to use him (Roglic) to attack. Then have Vingegaard to sit on Pogacar and counter. In theory.

Interstingly, Ineos are in a good position though, with Yates, Thomas and Pidcock all in good GC positions. Let's see if they've got the legs to attack Pogacar too.

VdP didn't look himself today, mentally or physically. Pidcock is doing OK but seems to lack that bit extra at the moment to be a real contender - hardly surprising considering he had Covid just a week before the start.

I have to say I had hoped MvdP would have had a major say today and he clearly isn’t on his best form. After his exploits in the Giro it is probably not surprising and maybe he has bitten off more than he can chew taking part in the Tour.

Roglic didn’t look good yesterday and I am pretty sure Vimnegaard will assume the leader role now.

Any predictions for today?

Looks like another stage for a punchy rider. WVA and MvdP will surely fancy it. (I'm not giving up on MvdP yet, he didn't have a lot of luck yesterday)

I'm going to throw Bob Jungels in the mix as a sporting bet.
