Paddy in Midfield!?

Our midfield is pretty poor right now, Paddy was signed as a defensive midfielder, got to be worth a try!

A change of formation and philosophy needed also.

With the players available today, a more solid, defensive minded 3-4-3 for me.

Engel for Thomas and I agree on this team and formation for the current group of players we have available, it seems to suit them

Agree apart from Thomas.
 
This comes up everytime. I'm pretty sure Paddy sees himself as a CM. I'm usually against it.

Yet with only 2 CMs available and both absolutely woeful. I'm all for it. I mean can he be any worse?

I'd say he's more mobile / tackles better and more of a goal threat than Badpasser. Dan is absolutely stealing a living at the mo. I've not seen a slower CM. He makes Howson look box to box.
 
Pretty sure when we signed Paddy he’d been playing as a trequartista for Sunderland, where he also often plays for NI.

Yeah - not an easy choice between him and Engel admittedly but Thomas hasn’t had a great deal of games since injury and with a 3 centre half cushion I feel he’s more comfortable on the ball in advanced positions and freed up from defensive duties felt like he could do more damage than Engel….just feel like we ain’t seen Thomas at his best just yet…and a 5 at the back would really suit him 🤷‍♂️
 
Paddy is poor in midfield. One footed, weak as a kitten, takes an age to make a decision (which normally means he has to go backwards)
Of Mcnightmare and badpasser in midfield I’d probably choose to play glover. Honestly they’re both terrible

Wasn't he binned off elsewhere cos he couldn't play wing back ?

I'd be 3 5 2 all day long

That’s why 5-3-2 works because badpasser and obrien have Mcgree in there and full backs pushing on so loads of support in midfield that the lacking in ability badpasser needs

Unless he improves I don't think leaving O'Brien in the team will improve things too much

If they were both used as defensive players, looking to break up opposition plays and cover for wide players it would be a significant improvement on the last couple of games.

It is an easy choice and it isn't Thomas.
 
McNair is a ball playing centre back and the best at the club playing that role

Best defender, no, i would say that was Fry, Lenihan, Clarke, VDB and McNair in that order, but his ability on the ball allows us to play a certain way that none of the
other centre backs could pull off

The guy has played about 30 games for man utd, does anybody think anybody else in our squad could have pulled that off

Thanks. Strange how we see things different although both were poor today engels starting position is soo much higher and looks more confident. I believe hes better going forward and better defensively. We should play our players
