Phil Foden

The difference is that with Manchester City they have players who are constantly on the move, overlapping and this creates space and gaps for players like Foden to exploit. With England the players have been very static with little movement and that means the space isn't been created for the players such as Foden and Bellingham to exploit.

I'm sorry to say this but Kane has been the most guilty party, his only two movements are stand in the opposition box waiting for something to happen or run back to his own half. There is no intelligent off the ball running from him in the opposition half.

We have to drop Kane for someone lively such as Watkins if we are going to improve and get the best out of the creative players.

I agree, it I be a brave move to drop Kane, but Watkins has been doing everything you have said for Villa all season.

I don't think that ANY England players are performing well. I don't watch Prem football very much, but Foden does not look like a proper left winger. The whole team is not performing.

I don't know what Left wingers England have in the squad. Eze looks less effective than Sammy Silvera.

That has always been the problem with England manager after England manager, there are always too many players they seem frightened to drop. Maybe we should take half the Crystal Palace team rather than so many players from the “big” clubs.
I think being surrounded by a billion quids worth of foreign talent helps to flatter some players.

Dropping Kane is more to do with his outstanding England record (and at major tournaments) than the fact he plays for a big club.

The opposite could be said of Foden.

Kane is a bully for England against the weaker opposition and goes missing against the better teams.

Drop Kane and you will see better performances from Foden and Bellingham.

I was stunned by the lack of movement, it was comical in the first half. Bellingham and Foden were stood still between the lines as two 10s, with Saka stood still hiding behind his full back and Kane stood still up front.

It looks ridiculous when they recycle the ball across the back 4 at snail’s pace for 20 mins and it’s easy to blame Stones but every single proactive player was hiding, maybe apart from Mainoo.

I get it, there’s a lot of pressure and no one wants to make a mistake but anyone who’s played football can tell when a player is hiding or playing absolute safety first, we had the king of this at Boro for years. If they don’t want the ball, don’t play. I’ve got more faith in Bellingham than Foden, who’s generally performed better for England before, but they’ve both been shockingly poor. This is why Cole Palmer looks good, he takes responsibility, wants to get on the ball and tries to make things happen, and why England will be absolutely shelled when they have the misfortune to come up against a team like Spain, who have a whole squad of players who want to get involved.

Team looks frozen with fear, it’s like watching Iceland / the Golden Generation again. That’s where all the daft little defensive mistakes come from too.

That's b***ks 😂

He's scored or assisted against almost every big nation he's played against in his career.

It's only Belgium he hasn't.

I agree with you, his lack of movement is a huge issue, we need some sideways movement to drag defenders about not forwards and backwards in an already congested area.

He’s the best striker we have but he’s stifling the attacking players behind him. It would be a massive gamble to do it though.

Thankfully Harry will not be dropped.
Some want to play Watkins because this might open up a hole for Foden, who has 4 goals in 38 England appearances. And 1 goal in 11 Tournament matches.

I stress again, if Southgate picks Foden then he has earned the right to make his choices, but there appears a desperate need from some to build the team around him.

I don’t think there is a desperate need to build a team around Foden, just think we need to play him in his best position. If Southgate can’t do that then have the balls to drop him, playing him on the left is helping nobody!!!

A big problem with England for me was the opposition letting the centre backs have the ball and just marking the midfield. The movement was poor and none of them wanted drop in to pick it up, Fodens prefers it to feet than running in behind so the opposition defence are happy to play a higher line. Saka also seems to want it to feet too.

I’d play wingers who will try to run in behind just to create more space in midfield, then maybe Foden would look better. England are incredibly easy to defend against and we don’t really change it.
That's what frustrated me about Saka yesterday. He wanted the ball played to his feet with his back to goal but he wasn't strong enough and kept getting knocked off it.

He should be using his pace to run in behind or look to play little one twos.

Yesterday showed why the nonsense earlier about Bellingham v Foden was just that.
Bellingham and Kane have 2 goals each from 4 matches. They are critical to this England team.

I wouldn't be surprised if Southgate starts Foden again.
I definitely wouldn't, but Gareth has earned the right to pick whoever the **** he wants.
I’d put my mortgage on Southgate picking Foden…..he won’t get a game for England again though after this unless Jude gets injured.
Why ?
Because after the Swiss we’re going home and Southgate will get the pelters and be ex manager. Thank god and a proper manager will recognise that foden is second fiddle to Bellingham EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I think the next manager will play Bellingham as an 8 and Foden as a 10. That’s what I hope. They would work brilliantly together like that and then genuine pace on both wings.

Hahahaha

Nothing surprises me anymore about the sheer lack of tactical awareness of supporters.
For the millionth time, Kane is severely affected by nobody replacing sterling who ran beyond as did Saka and this really suits Kane as defenders get pushed back with pace.
Even Southgate hasn’t worked out that this is damaging us tactically; Gordon for foden would solve it and it’s an almighty disgrace that Southgate either can’t see it or won’t see it….

No chance for me.
Foden can play the pep way and that suits him but Bellingham runs from deep and gets EVERY kind of goal, head, feet. Overhead and foden would impinge on Bellinghams runs and space if that were tried….I don’t think it works….
