Bang on. You just had to see the outpouring yesterday after 18 years of winning the League Cup. Since then Man City have won the League Cup 6 times! Not one of those is treasured by their fans more than we treasure that day in February 2004.For City or Chelsea fans no doubt Coluka but for a club like ours it would represent an historic and never forgettable achievement and thats what football represents. Personal moments.
That said I just hope we give a great account of ourselves this evening no matter what the result.
I am sure Steve Gibson disagrees with most of you. Promotion could mean money, investment, hopefully progression through playing and competing with the best.
Think we all do but I certainly remember the following season in the Premier League and how miserable I was seeing us slowly surrender week after week.Fa cup win every day of the week and twice on a Sunday. I’d take a ginger grandkid and league two football to see us win it just once in my lifetime.
Can’t anyone remember the Karanka promotion season?
Best league in the world, without a shadow of doubtFA Cup. Another season in the Championship wouldn't be so bad having won a major trophy. It's a cracking league.
We were an established premier league team at the time who could compete with the best on a one off game and hold our own in the league and compete in the transfer market. Times are very different now, as are Mr Gibson’s accounts.Money and investment that might one day allow us to compete for a cup? Those things are just means to the end of winning things.
Take the cup if there's a choice (I know the world doesn't offer such choices).
I'm not sure SG would agree; I recall SMac's story if SG giving him a rollocking for fielding a weakend cup side: he saw us as a cup team.

The same as the Boro will in truth, fook all (yes today is not a good day)What do I get for a prize?
That would be a good answer to the question:People should check back and ask themselves one question, what tier have we been in when we have actually had our best progression in cup competitions? Undoubtedly being in the top tier. Yes lower tier teams get to finals as we know, pragmatism over idealism for me as it is more likely to help achieve the ultimate aim.
This every single day of the week.FA cup. All day long, steeped in history.
That would be a good answer to the question:
"Would we have more chance of winning something if we had a team in the Premier League or a team in the Championship?"
But that wasn't the question.
If, as you suggest, the 'ultimate aim' is to win something then surely you would choose the FA Cup over promotion this season if given that choice.
