Promotion

Pointless hypothetical question alert

If we could get Carrick and Akpom to both confirm that they would definitely stay for next season whether in the Prem or Championship would you take another season of Championship football over promotion? I think I would.

I've enjoyed this season so much largely due to these two. Been reading Leeds fan's all over twitter today bemoaning the last two seasons and wishing they were back in the Championship with Bielsa. This season has been one of the greatest ever experienced by us Boro fans and it makes me think that I'd love another season of it.

Almost feels like I am only wanting us to go up so that we don't lose Akpom and Carrick, rather than the fact of being in the Prem.

That makes no sense at all, your in the competition to get promoted and to compete at a higher level and strenghten the club financially to be able
to compete better for a longer period against stonger opposition

To suggest you would rather stay in a league where you can celebrate more wins due to weaker opposition, might as well purposely get relegated so the year after
you can win even more games against even weaker opposition

Not a dogs chance Archer will be playing in The Championship next season.

If we got promoted, I would move heaven and earth to try and sign him. I honestly think under Carrick (and with the current state of the PL at the lower end of the table) we would have a decent chance of escaping the drop, providing we have both CA's up front.

Our season would, in all probability, be more fun in the Championship. However , what's the point of sport if not to challenge yourself at the highest level?
Agreed, and 100% this thought process won't be crossing the players and coaches minds.

But as fan's we want to enjoy the games. I guarantee if we do go up, by January there'll be so many comments wishing we were back in the Championshiop.

I just feel that to go up this season means we've only had 8-mths or so of enjoying this team winning regularly. I'd just like another season of it!!!

For a player, yes. For me as a fan I'd prefer to see competitive games with a chance for many teams to be in the top few positions.

Our last forray into the top flight was less memorable or entertaining than the season in which we lost the play off final.

It’s always more enjoyable seeing Boro score goals, dominate and win games. That is only likely to happen regularly in the Championship.

However, such is the state of modern football promotion to the Premier League is definitely needed. My one hope is should it happen we do a better job of it than last time.

Too many players and coaches were brought it and the spine and spirit of the promotion squad ripped to pieces. If promotion happens we need additional players of highly quality but those there now deserve their chance to ensure survival.

Championship is great if you are doing well
Championship is awful if you are mid-table and the crowds are dwindling
I'd rather not risk the latter
Totally agree but that was why I mentioned keeping Carrick and Akpom. With these two and the majority of the squad we currently have I'm certain we would be able to mount a promotion campaign again next year. As said above it just feels like 8-mths of this quality football isn't enough. I want another season of it!!!

We get promoted, Akpom would likely sign a new long term contract, we'll be able to sign at least some of the loan players and strengthen significantly, whilst our finances will be much better.

A potential damp squib relegation doesn't really outweigh the benefits in any way for me.

If we get promotion we should refuse it. Championship is better. No VAR. Try to win the league next year. It's the same trophy Liverpool won all those times. Premier league is ****.

One successful season in the Championship doesn't mean you'll do well the following season. Huddersfield were basically robbed of promotion last season, this season they're awful and only potentially saved by Warnock.

We have also seen it in with Reading, Barnsley etc in recent years.

But surely Brighton has shown that this isn’t the case. You can play good football and competitive in the prem without sounding billions with the right ccounting and coaching.

Would brighton fans swap I don’t think so.

Absolutely. Although I would add Brighton haven’t been as good as they currently are every season since promotion.

But would Brighton be where they are now if they'd beaten us and got promoted a season earlier. DId that extra season give them time to build and be more prepared for the Prem.

All hypthetical but I think another season under Carrick in the Championship and we'd be in a much better position to do a Brighton or a Brentford

But they lost their manager and a few of their key players. In my hypothetical world that doesn't happen to us and we win the Championship with a record points total!!!

I think one or two are missing the point of the OP. We all know it will be great for the club, blah blah blah but it was for us as fans. For me if we can make a decent (mid table) fist of it then it’s got to be promotion because getting beat to another Ealing Haaland hatrick at the Etihad rather than 4v2 at Huddersfield is still a plus. However!!! If it’s two seasons surviving by the skin of our teeth then I’m sure on here it will be an echo of the Leeds board.
