Pub Menu from 1936

Oh brilliant Norfolk. That’s why I couldn’t find it. There is a “T” in there. It’s a gin then? Honestly never heard of it. Clearly been defunct for many a year.

Hulstkamp was taken over by Bols. There's still old bottles in lots of bars and hotels though. If you ask for an "Old Jenever" you might still get a Hultskamp gin. A "young Jenever" is a flavoured gin / schnapps type spirit, like Bols is today.

As a working man in the 1930s you would probably take home about £2 per week, so at 4d per pint you could (in theory) afford 120 pints per week. Interesting to work out how many you could buy now as a comparison.

Even when I started drinking lager was more expensive than bitter/ale (not twice as much but, from memory about 10-15% more)

Didn't realise they had lager back then.
Bit pricey though, 8d, you're having a laugh.
Bass, Guinness and lager all more expensive than the local stuff. The local stuff is now more expensive with this surge in real ale popularity.

We had Hultskamp in the boozer where I worked in Rotterdam in the mid 80's, I don't think I poured one while I was there.

Apfelkorn by Berentzen was a very popular drink that I don't see on the shelves here.

Is it still a thing to charge higher prices for the “lounge” rather than the “saloon” bars? I remember those days.
