QUIT YOUR JOB

What he's suggesting isn't possible in the current mode of thinking.....big mortgage ASAP, new car on the drive, satellite TV and the best mobile.....all on tick. You might be under stress but you think you're doing well.

I had a mate who managed it, bought a small terraced house and lived pretty frugally, he didn't actually change his job but he only had to work for half the year, no credit card, no unnecessary loans. He didn't have a family, which made it easy.

I tried it, I was single when I changed my job but once the family started I reverted to my old job. I couldn't afford the student nurse life with a wife and a bairn at the time, even with a £4k mortgage.

I was plunged into living by myself in a one bed flat in early 2000s. I was living abroad and had no support structure as such. I was forced into thinking differently. Before this happened I was fairly materialistic, we had nice villa, pool, big car etc - Then overnight was worse than zero. The truth is - it was very liberating. I scrounged furniture, started saving and it turned out to be a great time in my life (although it really didn't feel like it at the time). I was on top of my job and for the first time experienced real freedom to do what I wanted, when I wanted - I lived like that for almost 10 years until I got sucked sucked back into the old routine.
