Random question - did your dad wear Jeans?

Yeah...there are photos of my grandad at the beach with his white shirt sleeves rolled up, cigarette in hand and hair all creamed back but with a bit of the fringe flopping down and he looks like a right F***ing cool dude...

He should have had a plain white t shirt and jeans on lol

I remember when Beckham became “the face of Brylcream” in adverts during the 90s, and my grandad was like “I’ve been using it since 1940!”

It's a great question, because, as above, most of the older generation didn't wear jeans. Slacks (cords) or whatever. Jeans were a younger, cool thing

My generation (55+) , as it gets older, will certainly continue to wear jeans until our dying day.

So will jeans become the slacks of the next oldie generation and therefore become uncool to the youth?
(as cloth caps and cheap suits come back in fashion!)

I’m coming up 65; my dad never wore jeans. Jacket, shirt and tie for work; slacks or cords at the weekend.

He did however wear shorts. Many would say that they wished he hadn’t, god bless his soul!

My Dad died last year, he started wearing jeans in his 60s, don’t know what prompted it. Never saw him wear shorts after 1976.

My grandad was always smart shirt and trousers, never a tie in the house but always outside. Went to the pub every night and drank Guinness, thin as a rake.

My grandad ( he was a young grandad ) was in his pomp 70s to 80s .
He never wore Jeans ever , or a t shirt , he did progress to a polo shirt after seeing the fellas wearing them in Paris and Rome late 80's early 90s .
Weirdly, he'd wear shorts on holiday if it was 18c .. but put trousers on in TS 6 if it was 28c

I know....very random indeed but this is aimed at the older lads on here, 40, 50, 60+.
It just cropped up in conversation about dad's always wearing trousers/slacks, call them what you want but I can never ever remember my old man in a pair of jeans. Come to think of it I can never remember him in a pair of shorts.
I'm pushing 59 now and only ever wear trousers to some sort of function.
Was it a generational thing? A fashion thing? Surely jeans were around in the 60s and 70s 🤔
So, over to you lovely lot.
Did your dad wear jeans ( and shorts 😂 )
Not once. No chance at all. Wouldn’t have been seen dead in them. Suit, shirt and crew neck jumper or shirt and tie. I on the hand am 62 and to my wife’s irritation (who thinks I’m too old, look like Jim Royle and should wear cords) don them on every non-formal occasion

a No from me as well . I am 66 died in 2008 aged 82 and only remember him in beige MS slacks .... my mum has never had a pair either and she is 93... Xy Mexys were the brand before Levi and wrangler took over in 1970 when I was 13 and Xy Mexys were rent ...
