Rangers interested in Britt

I admit I was quite pleased when we signed him. Saying that I’d never watched forest or him play and was based mainly off his stats.

I was very excited when we were linked with him, mainly because he had a fun surname and an excellent goal return with Forest, but I'd never really watched him play.

I don't think he's ever looked truly happy here even at the best of times, I don't think you can lay all the blame at his feet, and I honestly do wish him well wherever he goes after us.

I'd like it to be Rangers as he'd probably score a decent amount of goals for them and there'd be no risk of him scoring against us.

Defo doesn't need to sign for a champo side. It's a nailed on winner against us and probably score 25 goals and we will be the usual 'why didn't he do that for us?'.

I imagine he's going to get plenty of offers. He's a decent age and has done it with various clubs. He will definitely get a significant pay cut.

As a Rangers man I really hope they don't sign him, would far prefer it to be celtic.
Just so long as he's not here though.

Although its turned out very badly, he was the hottest player available at the time. And it was a real coup to get him. As much as I disliked Monks reign it was not him that splashed the cash. Only SG could do that.
Don't blame SG he got the best that he could get. Based on stats and perceived value. Once play offs are beyond reach I don't expect to see anything but the occasional last 10 minutes to stop our good players getting injured
We had better on the books in Bamford

Strange one Assombonga as he was kinda the Ollie Watkins and Toney of that summer window. On stats alone he was the best avaliable at a good age set to enter his prime years with our service we also expected him to hit 20+,on our return to the premiership. Britt played best when we had Traore though so he could score the tap ins

We probably don't play to his 'strengths'. He's never going to hold the ball up or win headers.

That said the signings of Britt 15mil / Braithwaite 9mil and Fletcher 7 Mil have been absolutely stunningly bad bits of business. That's 31 million on 3 forwards on massive wages with a total back of around 4-5mil (whatever we got for Braithwaite).

This isn't including the likes of Rudy and Downing leaving for nothing after costing 6mil apiece.

We've had a truly bizzare 'business model'. It's been buy high and let them go for nothing. It's usually because even if we won't shot we can't due to wages.

Thats why last summer I was actually happy to see players turn us down over wages. Warnock said plenty of clubs 'blew us out of the water' with wages. That's gotta be a first👏

Assombalonga biggest problem for me is, if he doesn’t score early on in a game he is absolutely woeful for the rest of the game and the only thing he is arsed about is scoring. If he doesn’t score he genuinely doesn’t seem arsed about what’s best for the team. He’s a poor footballer and doesn’t have many strengths at all really. Can’t wait for him to go and I don’t like how he never looks arsed when someone apart from him scores a goal. Selfish

Every season he fails to be in the top 10 strikers at this level, he's way way behind players like Joao Pedro, Kieffer Moore, Andrew Ayew, in technical ability and even further behind Toney, Armstrong and Pukki in finishing. He has never had a season at this level like any of those guys. He was the result of a cursory look at numbers not a proper assessment of technique and physical ability.

He can't hack it against decent sides. He has played 39 games against the top 6 teams for us (including 2 play offs vs Villa), he failed to score in 36 of those games. He's a flat track bully with plenty of goals against Burton Albion, Bolton, Hull and Rotherham, but nothing against Villa, Norwich etc. Paying 15mill to make sure we can beat the poor teams is awful business.

He's a top League One player or a lower half championship one.

Perfectly put.

Yep, amazingly bad. Especially considering the age they were when they signed - they weren’t Alen Boksic signings where you pay top dollar and expect them to leave on a free. These were supposed to be investments and hitting their prime or just after, now.

Quite “funny” really that of that set of strikers, one is at Barcelona, one has just had a cracking season in the Premier League, and we lost an absolute fortune on the lot of them.

You are far too generous saying he has plenty of goals against struggling sides
The first 3 seasons I agree but this current season he has not scored plenty at all.
This season he has been absolutely dreadful, and really shouldn't be in the matchday 20 any more

The same with Akpom - who never has and never will score regularly. I wonder sometimes if he's called NotBritt Akpom when some on here praise him , almost because he is not Assombalonga
Game after game he is anonymous.Yes he got a flick on on Saturday, but when will his next involvement be?

We need to move on from these 2 as soon as possible - preferably tonight -and while he has overtaken them I'm absolutely comfortable with Fletcher going too

The love in for Bamford on here is strange. He wanted to leave.

And as for the snake Braithwaite....

I think we need a complete new forward line next season, but Fletcher aside when hes fit I wish Warnock would start now.

Britt and Akpom should not be in the matchday 20 any more for me

In hindsight it was a poor move for all concerned. Certainly not lived up to expectations and has gone from a 1 in 2 striker at PBoro and Notts to a 1 in 3.2 with Boro (that said if was still scoring a goal every other game it's unlikely he'd be with us).

In his defence, his best asset is probably his finishing, burying chances put on a plate but we've never really played that way while he's been at the club. Closest was probably under Monk. Pulis wanted a lone target man, Woodgate (I think) favoured movement and Warnock wants an aerial presence coupled with intuitive movement in and around the box. Britt falls into none of those categories.

For me, it further underlines the necessity of having a long term strategy when it comes to managerial appointments, recruitment and style of play. When Pulis was appointed and it was clear that Britt wouldn't fit his plans we should have sold him immediately, or appointed a manager whose style of play was better suited to Britt's. I'm not suggesting we can do this for every player but surely it makes sense to consider it in light of a record signing who had been with the club barely 6 months at the time.
