Something that’s grounded in living in today’s society but that appreciates there is ‘more’ going on than our human eyes ‘see’

A foot in both worlds so to speak….

The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche comes highly recommended by many (including me).

I heard about it from Billy Connelly in one of his audio books. It has helped me, especially when coping (or not!) with grief. You can pick up 2nd hand copies for a couple of quid.

Good luck with your journey and UTB 👍

Ayya Khema: When the Iron Eagle Flies / Buddhism for the West
you can pick this up for a few quid on-line but it could change your life. Gives instructions on meditation for people like us.
Paramahansa Yogananda: Autobiography of a Yogi. Builds a bridge between Eastern and Western consciousness. A cosmic, entertaining read.

I don't read much (too stressed by modern life & can't relax!) but have several of Thích Nhất Hạnh's books (which are quite short & very simple to read) - nothing groundbreaking, but thought provoking & quick n easy.

Human Kind - A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman.

Just started it and so far so good.

The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene. Or most of his other novels.

Or a lot of novels by JB Priestley.

the podcast 'I can't believe it's not buddha' is a low-brow but fun listen. for people dabbling with Buddhisty things, and trying to make it relevant to modern, pisss-takey life. some of the later ones have good discussions about some of the authors & books mentioned above. it's neil webster & lee mack, so people will find it funny or irritating, depending on taste.
