RED FACTION - UPDATE

Why do it and alienate sections of our fan base?
I don't think they have alienated very many of the fans? I think there were two reactions on Saturday, amusement and irritation. Some just thought it was a bit of fun and others (like myself) thought that is going to cause trouble.

To be clear, I have enjoyed many of their displays, the banners, the flags, the messages, I'd rather they gave the drum a rest but I can tune it out and appreciate that it does "lead" the crowd. When I saw the ridiculous routine to try to defeat the CCTV I just thought they actually believe they are being clever. The club have made it clear that pyrotechnic devices are forbidden and they went ahead anyway and to make it worse it wasn't even to do with the club it was some self congratulatory performance art. Idiots.

If they end up in a sulk, suspended or walking out at the next game (which let's not forget is a rather big game against Leicester) I will not give a hoot, it is all their own fault no one else

It is no great loss. I go to watch the football, I'll go whether there is someone banging a drum or not.

They've given the Riverside such a good atmosphere in recent years and some of the displays in that video are really spacial. I think as fans we should be really appreciative.

However, I just don't get why they alienate themselves with stupid stuff like they did on Saturday. Surely it's better to have more people onside?

Also as a side note, why do they blur out their faces?
I think most folks have taken them for granted. The flare does seem like a message to the club.. I think it does exactly that.

The issue has been created on the back of a 2-0 defeat and I guess the timing.. 15 minutes into the match.. everyone seems to have something to moan s out and someone to Biden after a defeat and this time round it was Red Faction.

If we win that game.. the flare is no longer an issue. If the banner display hits hard and touches fans the flare is not an issue.

Fair play to them.. 15 years against the odds and against resistance from the club. Yes they are still there and no they will not be silenced. They have done a lot for the club and should be thanked and appreciated.

Thanks RF08 you’ve done done really good stuff and improved the atmosphere and improved the fan experience as a whole. Also.. I really liked the flare.. it looked mega!

They are a bunch of Stefan Kuntz if they do not work with the club and keep to rules. I hope the organisers develop……. a bad case of swine flu, because they are pigs.

I mean rules are great and everything..

but sometimes fun can be found.. outside of the rules.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good rule. But sometimes the gradient changes and 31 miles an hours creeps on the speedometer..
AND ITS EXHILARATING!!

They are not outlaws like Robin Hood. Red Faction meet regularly with the football club and even hold special events at Boro.

I agree that most fans haven't been alienated. I'm against flares and pyro in the ground, but what's in the past is in the past. However RF could alienate a large section of the crowd if they persist with that sort of antisocial behavior. They need to understand that they're not speaking for the majority of the fans when they do that; they're just indulging themselves. They have a choice, and any damage done last Saturday is not irreparable if they so choose.

As for messages, RF need to listen as well as being listened to. Their displays have been great over the years without resorting to pyro. Why do they feel the need to cross that line and resort to it now? If it's simple "we do what we want" posturing and trying to push the limit of what they can get away with, I don't blame the club if they respond with "you'll do it outside the ground then."

The last display was a bit of a ‘Sporting Glory’ - awkward, missed the mark and we lost.. so it became utter tripe and a total head scratcher.

Self indulgent black and yellow display with a flare.. I guess it was poorly executed and setting of a flare after 15 minuites in a game we went on to lose 2-0

I don’t think it was a disgrace and I like what they do.. if we had won the game it would have been seen differently. It would face still been self absorbed and an opportunity missed to say something important or inspiring worthy of a tifo display from our very own ultras.

I really doubt the result has any impact on how people view the pyro incident

Did they have the courtesy to discuss the Pyro event with the club? I assume not. Pyro’s are outlawed in stadia and are classed as a criminal act under the sporting events act 1985 aren’t they?

Definition of Outlaw: a person who has broken the law, especially one who remains at large or is a fugitive.

Several people clearly assisted the perpetrator. The fact that they may have done some good things is irrelevant, when they have pre-planned and organised an illegal action, considered how to cover up the individuals involved knowing that it breaks the law all in order to celebrate their groups self indulgent birthday, putting other people potentially at some risk. I can’t believe how people are happy for the law to be broken and support illegal acts of organised criminality.

Maybe I’ve missed it, but surely they could have put the whole thing to bed pretty easily by simply posting something on social media to acknowledge that some fans were uncomfortable with it. Something along the lines of ‘Sorry for any discomfort/unease caused by the flare. We misjudged things and acknowledge that many of our own fans weren’t happy with our actions on this occasion. We got that one wrong but hope you’ll continue to enjoy and support the displays we produce in future‘.
People would probably have said ‘good lads’ and moved on.
Their displays are fantastic and often something to be proud of, as shown in Newy’s post above. But the flare was stupid.
