RNLI.

The RNLI and all the amazing work they do are now being attacked by the idiot'n'chief Farage and co because they save the lives of migrants. This makes them a "taxi service" for illegal immigration.

Thankfully it's triggered a surge in donations to the RNLI, but some of the comments I've read in support of Farage are unbelievable in their ignorance of the work they do in risking their lives to save people, no matter who they are or where they've come from.

"Defund the RLNI". Get in the bin, along with your clown leader Farage.

The RNLI are a charity and those opposed to migrants often say that charity begins at home, so... wait. I'm confused. Are these unsavoury people not making a coherent point?

It's a worry isn't it? People like Farage now want people to drown. That's a level of extremism I'm not comfortable with. Even if I hated brown people and believed the "stealing our jobs" lie I still wouldn't want them to drown.
Its not just him, you see this being a genuine suggestion absolutely everywhere now. Just look at the comments on their social media page. Ive even seen it mentioned on here in the past. Its the end result of the narrative being pushed on us by the government and the media over the last few years, and a large proportion of the population are just too thick to question it.

Faith slightly restored in humanity with the amount raised for the RNLI over the last day, not everyone is that evil thankfully

I think the point they are trying to make is that before saving people from drowning, they need to ask them for some ID first, failing that, evidence of their right to work in the UK.

If they can't (obviously nothing to do with the whole busy drowning lark) then they should be left to die. If the RNLI then decides to save them anyway, they should then be dropped off at some beach in France.

Long story short, they are morons of the highest calibre.

Shows you how thick some people are.... how can you "defund" the RNLI... Its a charity

On the subject of their funding... I had them as my chosen charity for the year in a chairman's position i found myself in. I spoke to the cox at Hartlepool when i gave them the cheque and asked why they didnt go for government support.

His answer.. "they didn't want government accountants buying the equipment :) "

They diversify their investments well and would have been slashed to the bone had they been an official emergency service over the last decade.

There was a half joking piece I read online a couple of years ago which suggested that setting the fire, police and ambulance services loose could lead to better staff retention, better finances and ultimately better service.

Yeah it's amazing how sick we have become that people want to attack the RNLI.

People go insane when I compare what is happening in this country to what happened in Germany in the 1930's and it IS an extreme comparison. However what is the difference between convincing people that the Jews are bad for the country, that they are subhuman and need to have their stores and synagogues smashed up and convincing people that asylum seekers are bad for the country and should be left to drown?

My son is an RNLI crew member and joined when he was 17 many years ago.
He then later on became a member of a "blue light" emergency service.

I was at first extremely worried when he joined the RNLI but once I saw the duty of care, training and equipment all to an exceptionally high standard my worries were eased.

Wish I could say the same for the government funded day job he has. Poor tired equipment and always being cut to the bone.
Yes keep the RNLI as a charity to keep on receiving a first class service. You never know when you might need them.

This is the problem with eloquent speakers they can espouse the most abhorrent of ideas in a way that comes across as everyday normal to their followers, in essence what Farage is saying is that we should endanger British people as well as Foreigners, a differential that I find bizarre in the extreme for any charitable organisation to make, by not supporting the RNLI, we should allow people to drown on the basis of nationality ?

I'm not sure how anyone can identify with these inhumane ideas and give any credibility to those that do and shows that Farage is ignorant of maritime law and universally recognised protocols such as SAR (International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue), UNCLOS (United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea)and SOLAS (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea)

If you haven't had the chance already, get yourself on one of the tours of the HQ down in Poole. The place is fantastic. You would not get that sort of investment in kit and boats if it was government ran... everything is state of the art and world beating.

There are some alarmingly thick ignorant people in this country knocking the RNLI for humanitarian work. Farage is the turd stoking them up that won't flush.

If it was a choice between them and the dinghy migrants who to ship out of the country I know who I'd pick.

The ladies and gentlemen of the lifeboat crew
will not check for skin colour
before extending saintly fingers,
risking all so a stranger may live.

They know you cannot catch fear
through the meeting of lips,
the free donation of air
to buy another second.

The coxswain for today
heard the shorebound wails
of "All Lives Matter!",
and takes you at your word.

The ladies and gentlemen of the lifeboat crew
(volunteers, one and all)
hear your vague complaining
but respectfully beg to differ.

Their message rings clear and true,
buffered by winds it remains unswayed:
To those in peril on the sea,
nobody goes unsaved today.
