I read a very good piece in the Gruniad a couple of weeks ago, about climate change.
The Govts of the main countries, plus large fossil fuel corporations, knew about climate change in the 70s but decided to do nothing about it. They understood that it was affecting certain regions (Bangladesh early 70s, East Africa early 80s etc) but thought that the Western countries would be able to absorb the populations of these countries as they had to move due to changing climate and conditions.
Now I'm not saying that all of these people are trying to get in owing to this reason, but a fair few will be, some will be fleeing wars.
Worked out well though didn't it.

No that is clearly the case given the increased donations. Let's not turn this into england are racist. We are not, some are wonderful people there are a tiny minority of racists, Let's defeat them. Not by hatred but by showing them another way to live.

No fortunately I am heartened by the donations to the RNLI in response but the fact that this minority are becoming ever more emboldened is a concern driven by the likes of the Government and four mainstream newspapers and now a TV Channel. It cant be under played.

Unfortunately, the racists are crawling out from under their rocks all over the globe, its really not just contained to a few countries. They are more emboldened now than ever, and can now come out and say how they really feel without having to check themselves.

I was at my kid's sports day a couple of years ago and a dad I'd never spoken to before turned to me as a race was about to start and just came out with "Good job there's no Muslim kids here: then they'd have to win, wouldn't they?"
As if you'd just come out with something like this in public. I'd like to report a heroic riposte, but all I could muster was "Y'what?!" and a facial expression like he'd just told me that Dong Gook Lee had won the Ballon D'or.
Some people say it's the online echo chamber making you believe that more people really do think like you, but as FMTTM users we don't all presume thay everyone else is a closet Boro fan.
Anyway, back to thread: RNLI took £200,000+ yesterday.

It's forums like this that provide the hope that all is not lost and that racism, cruelty and hate have no place in the world.
Farage is only in the UK because at one point his ancestors crossed the channel as either refugees or economic migrants, his ongoing hypocrisy of taken the Brussels Euro as his pay and pension and employing non-British workers on his staff is easily forgotten by the Jingoist Union Jack wavers and their blinkered view of Great Britain, and Britain is a great country, a place that we should be proud that others want to call home and our greatness should be shown with welcome and understanding, with leadership and support, not protest and pillory, not withdrawal and a sense of trying to preserve or recreate a Britain that doesn't and has never existed, we should be world leaders by example and by doing the right things it's people like Farage who dilute our brilliance, who poison the minds of others and deflect from their own exploitation of the British people, Farage does not care about any of his supporters or this country beyond what he can get out of both. Look at the speed he deserted HMS Post Brexit Britain to sign up for the USS Trump.
Great that the RNLI have benefited from his hateful, misguided mutterings and hopefully he will be consigned to the obscure hinterland of once relevant politicians, occasional slots on GB News and the odd side note as an attendee of something or other.

Idiot is correct. As if anyone crossing the channel in a small overcrowded dinghy isn't going to be in a desperate situation. Take away the lifeboats and it won't change the number of people attempting to come in to the country, just the number that tragically perish.
Tories put way too much faith in the idea of deterrents in my opinion. You see the same daft arguments made for capital punishment and nuclear weapons.
