Lots of venues book him though, then change their mind. They only seem to think his act is 'unacceptable' when someone else has told them it is. Why don't they just watch him first? It's about the venue not really wanting to be associated with him.
I'm sure they know exactly what they're booking.I suppose the reason for the debate is the way its presented. If the theatres just didn't put him on it wouldn't be a big deal, but its the way they seem to book him, then get a load of backlash, then cancel his shows and make out like its all about 'their values' (it isn't really, they just don't want to harm their brand once they've realised some people take issue with it).
If they bothered to watch some of his stuff before booking him maybe they could come to a logical conclusion themselves, and if they truly believe his act is worth putting on they should stick to their decision. Its the flippy floppy nature of it all that seems to cause so much anger. Any theatre booking him now is asking for trouble, but if they do decide to do so, they should actually have a backbone about it. Its as if they don't bother researching the act first!
Count me in on that oneThen again I'd say the same about Mrs Brown's Boys. I mean I'd definitely sign a petition to get that struck from the BBC if ones knocking around
But as I say these venues just invite this hassle by booking him in the first place.I'm sure they know exactly what they're booking.
He's not really my cup of tea but if a club wishes to book him and if people want to pay their money to attend his show then leave them to it.
I can only imagine those who take the time to protest against it have far too much time on their hands.
Bernard Manning was probably a better comedian but some of his material would probably shock Chubby.Never found him funny to be honest
I alwyas thought bernard manning was streets ahead
You could be right. But as I say these venues just invite this hassle by booking him in the first place.
In fact, the cynic in me wonders if they book him purely so they CAN cancel the show to try and create the illusion, like many of these huge organisations do (ATG turnover about £500m a year), that they actually do especially care about E, D & I.
I've seen Bernard Manning and he failed badly on stage, I've seen Chubby a couple of times and he hasn't. Maybe because of the location of the clubs but Manning really was poor.Bernard Manning was probably a better comedian but some of his material would probably shock Chubby.
Do you have a problem with brown things mate? That seems a bit racist to me.It's about the venue not really wanting to be associated with him. It's not a case of 'don't go' if you don't like him.
I'm sure he's been 'cancelled' by many due to lack of demand. I simply never hear anyone say 'get in' when his new tour dates are announced.
I laughed at a few of his jokes. Then again they were usually on VHS. So that tells you something. I'm pretty confident I could watch a 90min gig from him and not even smile. I'd probably leave after 15 lol.
Then again I'd say the same about Mrs Brown's Boys. I mean I'd definitely sign a petition to get that struck from the BBC if ones knocking around
Yeah, both ATG and Chubby Brown himself are probably benefitting from these public 'spats' and cancel culture. You could be right.
Equally, Chubby Brown could actually benefit from this publicity, as there will be those who will want to "fight back", due to believing he is a victim of what's known as the cancel culture.
J.K. Rowling faced a backlash from her own fans when she began to voice transphobic beliefs, making her one of the most prominently “canceled” individuals at the center of the cancel culture debate, but in 2020 there was a massive increase in the sales of her books.
Must admit I never saw Manning live, just on TV.I've seen Bernard Manning and he failed badly on stage, I've seen Chubby a couple of times and he hasn't. Maybe because of the location of the clubs but Manning really was poor.
And to be fair its working out REALLY well for the pub with the "gollies"...Equally, Chubby Brown could actually benefit from this publicity, as there will be those who will want to "fight back", due to believing he is a victim of what's known as the cancel culture.

Saw him in Leeds in the 80's ended up walking out he was disgusting and would probably get arrested for some of his jokes and abuse of the audience now. Especially a young oriental girl on her own who he abused terribly. That's when I walked out.Bernard Manning was probably a better comedian but some of his material would probably shock Chubby.
I knew this, but only cos Noel Gallagher told meAlthough Bernard Manning did play the opening night of The Hacienda (true story) I doubt Chubby Brown can lay claim to opening such a iconic venue.
I really don’t want to re-ignite this debate, but to class JK Rowling as transphobic shows a complete misunderstanding of her stance and the entire gender debate. You could be right.
