'Sammy Ameobi to Middlesbrough is all-but done'

I don't care if none of our signings excite or inspire in future.

Just so long as they improve the team when they play, I don't care.

I've seen too many exciting signings turn out to be duffers to have any feelings about players before I've seen them play a few games for us.

Unbelievably frustrating when we had him on loan. Slowed attacks down, no football brain and more bothered about trying to beat his man one more time than doing anything productive with the ball.

I prefer players to play with their heads up and he was the complete opposite of that.

He might well have improved since I suppose, can't say I've followed his career in depth.

Slowed attacks down
This really, he's got talent but the game slows every time he gets the ball.

I didn't follow him at Forest last season, but he did well at Bolton to be fair (hence he got the Forest move), in a very poor team.

Not the most exciting signing, but then I don't think many (if any) will be this summer.

When will we realise signing these championship journeymen who are average at best, no resale value and will be gone in 2 years really isnt the way to run a football club. Plugging the gaps as usual with absolutely zero long term vision
Having a manager who won’t be here after next season and who everybody expects to go out in a blaze of glory doesn’t lend itself to anything more than signings for the moment rather than the future. Wouldn’t you think?

Signing some unknown Brazilian kid for £14m doesn't mean it wont just be for the moment. Could urn out to be tripe.. or could have his head turned and b***r off in January. Sammy Ameobi is good to go and he'll produce at a higher level than Mendez-Laing.

Players come and go and managers come and go. We have a pretty decent stock of youngsters, Warnock want's to put experience back into the squad.

LB Marvin Johnson - 30yo - DENVER HUME 22yo - £1.4m
RW Mendez-Laing 29yo - SAMMY AMEOBI 29yo - Free
MF Lewis Wing 26yo - PELLY RUDDOCK - 27yo - Free
LW Neeskens Kebano 29yo - CHRISTIAN ATSU 29yo - Free
AM Yannick Bolasie 32yo - YANNICK BOLASIE 32yo
ST Ashley Fletcher 25yo - JOSH MAJA - 22yo - £3m
ST Britt Assombalonga 28yo - MICHAEL SMITH 29yo - £1m

Paul Mullin & Uche Ikpeazu are both 26yo and 6'3

6'3 6'3 6'3 6'4
Mulin--Ikpeazu--Smith--Ameobi

imagine having to face THAT in the championship!

we're only looking at being in the championship for another season, plenty of players would like to see their stock rise and be involved in a promotion, maybe get a stab at the prem.

There are not going to be any exciting signings, the budget isn't being provided for that.
I'm hoping for competent signings that can be blended into a team greater than the sum of the parts.
If not we will deservedly bob along as also rans.

I wouldn't have gone anywhere near Ameobi for the reasons posted by many others already, but Warnock will be judged by the results he gets this season with a squad that will be very much his.

I'd go for fewer, better players myself, bolstered against injuries by more opportunities for young players like Wood who is going to be outstanding.
Warnock will recruit a lot of unappealing players and won't trust the youth/will hide behind this long term development rubbish.
One thing is absolutely true however and that is Neil is the experienced football manager with multiple promotions from financially challenged clubs and I'm sat about to go on my mower having never managed a league club.

Yeah thats right, and for me thats the exact reason Warnock shouldnt be here next season. The next manager will come in and want to rebuild again, so its effectively another few seasons wasted unless we get promoted, which based on the last 6 months were more likely to go down than up

Decent addition as he improves the squad, wouldn't expect him to be a starter, but brings plenty of Championship experience.

His stats are rubbish. Hardly creates and rarely scores. It doesnt bode well. Unless he going to have a wonder season like some players do around his age

This 100%

Time to realise another year has passed and the recruitment failings are alive and well.

Can't wait to be left with a team of plodders essentially only suited for route one / Warnock's style of play, when he leaves next season and another manager has to start all over again.

Expecting an answer from him tonight/early tomorrow but they do believe they've got him. Proper source I got guys ;);););)

It seems that despite the number of times we’ve been told there is a very limited budget some people still seem completely unaware of what that means. It means signing journeymen players like Ameobi will be the norm, in fact he’s probably better on paper than some others that we’ll sign.

Warnock wants promotion as much as we do so is not going to sign players that cannot contribute. Given an open chequebook he wouldn’t give Ameobi a second glance, but he’s got to live in the real world. We just have to leave it to him and his years of experience and hope that he can mould a team out of what might appear misfits to us. It may work or we may end up mid-table again, but I’m really looking forward to next season no matter what.

Disappointed in this, he is not a pacy winger, head down beat your man and cross the ball type. He is a wide midfielder with a gangling, awkward run where 8/10 he falls over his own feet, but occasionally can score a screamer from 25 yards. He has all the consistency of a packet soup.
