Saville

I’m all for giving him credit when he’s good on here and always think he should start but himself and Johnson were our worst performers today in my opinion, he received the ball in some lovely positions but totally slowed the game down in attacking areas. Just wish Tav was the player receiving the ball in them positions, if he was I think we would of won that game today.

On Johnson, he just didn’t have his radar today. Nothing he tried seemed to come off but he always offers an outlet which is a plus.

I actually thought he'd turned the corner & his performances won me over & worthy of a 1st team start, over the last 3, 4 games he's been awful

Today I remarked that he hadn't touched the ball till, probably, the 2nd half, he does slow the game down

He received a lovely ball off Morsy & a simple return pass could have seen Morsy run through, his return pass set up Norwich

So a no for me I'm afraid

Completely agree with you Block. He had a turning circle like an artic lorry today and the amount of times I was shouting "Turn!!" at the TV.. even his team mates should have been screaming at him.

Chuba Akpom off the ball running is diabolical as well. Great example, that opportunity with Howson, he should have been coming across the Norwich defence to pull a defender with him, not running with the crowd.

That's an honest post by a good bloke. Plenty of others would defend "their man".
You are right, Saville was absolutely woeful yet again today. He can thank his midfield colleagues for covering him.
Going forward we were unbelievably bad after the sending off with a man advantage.
Spence and Johnson were awful and Akpom is just invisible.
Not to see Watmore until the 89th minute is a head scratcher.

The back 4, Howson and Morsy all did very well. Fisher was a breath of fresh air at the back.

For me that’s my favourite Morsy performance. He was full of energy and him and Howson were superb. Fry and Fisher best performers. Happy enough with Bolasie and hopeful he’s going to be good for us. Good point!

I am always honest and Saville deserves criticism today definetly. Wouldn’t be disappointed if he’s on bench next game after a string of poor shows.

He did persuade the ref to send off their player though. He does a job, but he is supposed to be a threat supporting the forwards and isn’t. However, i think he was just doing the job Warnock gave him. We were playing for the draw from the off against the league leaders, so job done, albeit in an unadventurous style.

I think it took some time for Saville to understand exactly what his role was today. He worked very hard, got behind the ball and kept the shape of the side. Second half he looked ‘awkward’ at times, the ball seems to get stuck under his feet or he runs past it and forgets to take it with him. I didn’t think he had a bad game today but he does go up a lot of dead ends. Johnson is a player I don’t understand. Doesn’t look interested at times and almost looks to crash his crosses against the shins of the guy in front of him. It would be great to have a winger with a bit of pace and flair but again he is a bloke who regularly seems to not see people around him and just gets his head down rather than looking up. It would be interesting to know how often he has the last touch in a Boro move!

Well I can think of one ........................ when he scored a well taken goal against Forest ....................... 4 games ago.

It comes down to our weakness in the final third. Decision making and a lack of pace especially when we won the ball in their half led to missing opportunities. Saville was part of that but so were a lot of other players.

I'd take a good playmaker over another forward.
Our strikers need better service from the middle .
Marvin didn't have a good game today but generaly out wide he does well

Great, compared to how many times he wastes the chances of a quick break? A broken clock is right twice a day🤪

When everyone is fit?

Too attacking for Warnock?

I'd love to see Diédhiou up top but that's not looking likely now.

Would like to see that line up but like you say not solid enough for Warnock.Would certainly have a bit of pace and movement.Saville plays in slow motion.

Saville is slow to think, slow to move and slow to pass or shoot. Everything breaks done around him as he so ponderous.
His last three performances have been atrocious.
Coluka posted that Saville was doing a job he'd been told to do. He didn't play any differently, or better than he did in home defeats to Blackburn and Rotherham where the onus was on us to go forward with him as the midfielder most advanced.

We have to be satisfied with a point away at the league leaders, but second half that could have been much more.
I am really chuffed with Fisher and Bolasie looked interested which was encouraging.
The back 4, Howson and Morsy got us that result today, with a bit of experience from Bolasie; but we have some major issues to address.

Got to agree about Savile. I posted yesterday that he has gone back to his previous non existent form. Was rubbish today.

Morsy his best game for a long while.

Howson put a shift in and seemed to me to be getting forward a bit more. You can see why he doesnt play more forward after he had that run and was so knackered he only just manged to get his shot away. Still he had a good game.

I'll probably get slated here but I thought Spence was decent today. Had to cover for Fisher when he was dragged about by their player. Plus he looked ok going forward and I think they were worried about him because if you watch game again you will see they were doubling up on him all the time. Especially in the first half.

Fry superb today. Fisher decent debut.

Its also no coincidence that we look a far better team when we keep the ball down. Today and against Forest. We look woeful when we get dragged into a hoofest as we did against Brim and Rotherham. A lot less passing back to keeper today and him hoofing to touch. Long may it continue
