Second Test - India v England

This pitch is not acceptable whoever bats first is going to win no matter what. First test not the best and the toss was important but if india had batted even half ok they would got away with a draw. This test you rohit great innings a few poor umpires decisions and ali bowling adds maybe 100 runs even without those runs india would win first batting first. Having said that if they had lost the toss india they would have been 2 nil down in match series so i suppose gamblers chance. I just hope they pay for it under the lights against jimmy anderson and broad in the next test

Is there something about being Middlesbrough fans that makes everyone blame refs (or umpires) and the pitch?

Nobody said anything about the pitch or the umpire in the first test when Joe Root was apparently the greatest batsman since Don Bradman.

The first pitch played how you would expect a pitch in India to play, England won the toss and outplayed India in all departments, fully deserving the victory.

This pitch however is awful and would rightly be criticised no matter who won the toss or the game.

The Umpires have made 3 awful decisions, 2 have not proved costly, the third remains to be seen.

Another embarrassing lack of cricket understanding

Rohit played very well and India knew what kind of wicket had been prepared, that’s why they were scoring at 5 an over for most of the first session.

Ben Foakes looks a unbelievable wicket keeper. It a shame he's not one of 'the boys' so he's never gonna play if Butler is available unfortunately
He is superb. Definitely a case for him to at least play every test on the subcontinent if not everywhere. Batting is very solid as well although not as memorable as the odd Buttler knock.

Foakes should have been in as wicketkeeper for quite some time. I’d like to see the following

burns
Sibley
Bairstow
Root
Stokes
Buttler/pope
Foakes

Definitely looks like that lead from the first day is insurmountable.

India have just been better though, even with the pitch and dodgy decisions.

Yes they certainly have. It's going to be set up delightfully for the day/night test

Dare I say a better red ball batsman too, though butter has improved as a test batsman

and then foakes misses an absolute routine stumping, its all or nothing with cricket fans isnt it.

Ashwin making the pitch looking ordinary, maybe we cannot rely on joe root pulling england out of the **** every game, the majority of englands top order batsmen average 30, that is the reason we see these types of performance. Blaming the pitch is giving the likes of rory burns excuses to keep on with his mediocre england career, if he was a bowler he's have been discarded 12 months ago

Fantastic knock from Ashwin. But he is fed lots of poor balls from our spinners. The difference between the two sets of bowlers.

I admit, I was critical of this pitch, but we just haven't bowled well enough. England haven't been able to build pressure on the batsmen because there has always been that loose ball in the over.
