Sending Off Incident

I thought it was inside the box, definitely have to see it again.
A friend I met last night said that the ref thought Jones was going away from goal that's why he didn't give a red, don't know how true that is or where he got it from , but if it's true that so wrong and laughable, Issaih was like a rat up a drainpipe at that point there was only one direction he was going.
Carrick said that's what the ref told the coaching staff, it was in the gazette

There is absolutely no way he was running away from the goal - he had got round the defender and was clearly heading for a shot on goal.

If wasn't heading on goal where was he heading?

Definitely heading towards to the goal and well away from the defenders.

He was clean through, all he had to do was make a complete balls of it, and he would.

Anyway, good game, decent result for both sides, and our heavy handed stuff wasn't penalised either.

Thought the ref had a good game in the circumstances.

It's hard to say when you are there and so heavily invested in one outcome, unfortunately for the ref you could be right but that incident is big and he better of not saying anything to our coaching staff as what he has said just makes him look incompotent, I'm sure the club will report it back to the refs managers.

I said on the match thread that I thought it was one of the few things he got wrong and other than that he had a good game.

In his post match interview MC felt that a Plymouth player should have been sent off.

What happened and is there a clip of the incident anywhere. TIA.

I think the issue is he goes down that often and leaves his legs in places to get caught that referees have doubt in their mind. I've seen it and think he needs to learn to drive past people and if he gets caught he will fall a lot more convincingly. However, definite freekick and lucky to stay on.

But that's a different issue entirely.

If the ref gives it as a foul, which he did, it's a red card.

It was a clear goalscoring opportunity and Jones was definitely moving towards goal.

If the ref hadn't given a foul because he thought Jones had dived, that would have made more sense than the situation we were left with.

It was a clear red card in my view.

I would however offer a reason as to why the ref didnt send him off, as Jones was fouled, in falling he knocked the ball away from the goal, which he wouldnt have done if he wasnt impeded.

I agree not convinced he would been good enough to score but thats not the point.

Definite red for me. Takes him out with a 2 handed push. Mind you, Drudy and Maddo didn’t even mention prospect of a red so 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s annoying when you’re on the wrong end of this type of incident - if the player is sent off we probably win the game. We all remember last season when Fry got this marching orders in an almost identical situation. I did see one person on Twitter say there’s been a rule change for this type of situation but I’ve not heard there’s been any change? Anyway hopefully we get the rub of the green in our favour soon enough

I can't remember now, but why did Fry get a red card and also concede a penalty?
Is it because the ref thought he fouled him on purpose, something like that?

The ref deemed that Fry made no attempt to play the ball, so it's still a red card.

It was actually very similar to this incident, with neither defender attempting to play the ball, except the ref in the Sunderland game decided it was in the box for Stewart (it wasn't in both cases) and correctly gave a red card.

If Jones had been fouled in the box, their player should still have been sent off alongside the penalty.
He was outside of the box, so it should just have been a red card.

And here, 8.54 into the Matchday Live video, Jones ends up near the corner of the 6-yard box. So much for heading away from goal! As for losing control of the ball, it was clearly because of the shove in the back.

Thinking about the screenshot I supplied has probably changed my mind on if it is a penalty or not, in the snap the ball is starting to go away from him which means the contact happened briefly before the snap and at that pace would put it outside, but it's definitely a sending off.
