Shame on you all re NW, really sad to see - Do you really think it's HIS squad?

Superb post as usual, AM.
It really isn't, because last year Morsey didn't play all the games as he was out with injury a fair chunk of the time, but when that was the case, we also had Sav, who despite the fact he had his knockers on here, was just the type of gritty midfielder suited for the championship who helped shore up the middle of the park & make us competitive, he's not been replaced either & as a result we are where we are!

Hi Viv

The chairman runs the club at the highest level - he is not hands off, his previous actions prove this. It may not pick the team but he contributes to the formulation of the squad from which the team is selected. In some ways he is like some continental owners that at times buy players for the "head coach" to use.

You have followed the club a long time and remember Alves who was picked for Southgate and eventually decent players had to be sold to pay for him. Alves a youngish South American attacking player, that the club paid a lot for and was not good enough for the Premier League. Soon after the Alves signing Southgate was seen very upset one day, the same day it was announced Lucas Neill had been sold for financial reasons. In recent years Southgate has said he did not buy Alves.

SG owns the club 100% and overall has been good for the club, but he has his style and takes decisons based on finance as much as football at times and wants to be heavily involved. Possibly he has been let down by managers in the past. The approx 50% figure referred to transfer dealings, not day to day managment.
Alves was 27/28 when we signed him, he was good enough for the premiership, BUT was a one dimensional striker in the mould of Dean Saunders who could only play racing onto through balls into the channels, once we let Rochemback go, we literally had no one in midfield with the ability or vision to play those balls, is why we made a futile attempt to convert Downing into a central attacking midfielder....
The reason we had to sell the players wasn't down to the purchase of Alves, we had a massive debt to the banks & they wanted a large chunk of it back sharpish after the financial cash in '08!
Luke Young aswell by the way, what a good player he was, was wounded when Hoyte rocked up!😰

Does typing in bold make your opinion more valid than anyone else's?

I do believe he was signed as an attacking midfielder....
He's never really been played as such though....
He can do a job as a holding midfielder, but it ain't something he's brilliant at....
He's also getting a bit long in the tooth....
And why we're not at the races....
Morsey wasn't brilliant at the position either.

I figured i was gonna get called out for that lol, was actually unintentional, something to do with this page/website i believe, was just typing & it suddenly switched to bold, wouldn't correct either!😜

Crooks was signed to replace Saville and Morsy only left after the Siliki deal was tied up, Warnock would have had input on those transfers, 100% guaranteed, and it still doesn’t answer why Warnock didn’t prioritise and recognise this positional shortfall in June/July when he drew up his list for squad requirements, we’ve brought 12 players in during the window that’s a whole new team if there are omissions then you have to look at those who are involved in specifying targets not those who are negotiating the deals.

Morsy couldn’t control the ball or make a simple pass

Karanka never had an orthodox defensive midfielder in the Championship either. In fact he inherited Leadbitter and signed Clayton, who was more of a No8 type midfielder for his other clubs but who became a defensive shield sort of player at Boro. Karanka presumably asked him to do that job and Clayton excelled at it for two years, and gave it his best shot in the Premier League.

Are you seriously telling me that Warnock can’t do the same with one of Howson, McNair, Siliki, Malley? Howson should be the one who sits and breaks up the play, I get the sense that Warnock thought he’d be better at it than he actually is. Or maybe Warnock just doesn’t see the need for a defensive midfielder? Wasn’t he playing with a back five at Cardiff? Did we lose matches with Morsy in the team? Was Morsy really the glue that held everything together?

If he hasn’t got that defensive midfield player available to him now then why isn’t he finding a shape to suit the players he does have at his disposal? How can whole shapes and seasons hang on one man sitting in front of the back four? He should finding solutions and working stuff out on the training field, not mouthing off in the press about how hard he has it. It’s his job to make it work. If he can’t then we all need to move on until we find someone who can get it moving forwards.

So why is Crooks playing as a No10 then?

Siliki might have been signed as a replacement for Morsy, but on evidence so far he is not ready. Wouldn't it be sensible to keep Morsy till Jan. People on here were saying Morsy was an anti vaxxer so had to go which there is no evidence for so far. My guess is we needed the cash. Ipswich offered a good fee and we possibly turned a small profit to keep the accountant happy. I know since he has gone we look more open in midfield.

Ref: Alves one reason we had high debt in 2008 is that we paid £12.5m for him. If he was Premier League standard why didn't he play in Premier League after he left us.

Well?
Do you think Neil wanted to sell Morsy & have no cover in the squad?
Absolutely NOT his fault, the current situation....
The guy is a LEGEND & football lover to boot, the people turning on him & trying to bring a sad end to a legendary career oughtta hang their heads in shame!
It's obvious he loves it here & none of this is nice at all!
He wanted Crooks and sacrificed Morsy. Like all managers he has a budget to work to

I appreciate the guy lves footy and has his fans but all that matters is what happens on the pitch anything else is just sprinkles on the turd that is our 2021 form. The performances and results are on a par with Strachans now, it cannot continue

We owed the banks about £80m! IIRC they wanted half back within six months!
Alves could easily have played for someone else in the premiership & been a success, BUT he was just like a typical Brazilian mercenary & took the riches offered him in the middle east instead!

Crooks can get you a goal, that much is undisputable....

However we've lost a hell of a lot of bite & defensive nous in midfield, it's hurting us massively....

He isn't he's playing as the most advanced midfielder, as did Saville for a lot of last season, but whatever position he's playing is down to the manager who himself said before the Plymouth game 'George (Saville) going back to Millwall has allowed us to bring Matthew (Crooks) in, he's someone I've liked for a while and he's a wholehearted player who offers us more options in the middle of the park' to me it seems like Warnock sees Crooks as Saville's replacement.

The other option is that Warnock has decided to play a different way with different personnel, in which case you yourself are opining that we should have stuck to the system of last season rather than change and, again, those decision's are down to the men with initials on their tops of which Warnock is the most senior.
