Silence of The Rams

Up until the accusations and bile pointed at Gibbo for getting the EFL to do their job properly I didn't care much either. And I know it is a vocal minority of DCFC fans but I have little sympathy for them. They have tried to dodge the fallout from their own misdemeanours at every turn. Many cheering when they thought they were getting away with it. Sadly I don't see any hope for them beyond a phoenix club. There is nothing left to buy other than a place in the third tier and the name of the club. Balanced against that a whole mountain of unpayable debt and likely a further points deduction and no budget to build a team to survive in that level.
I'd say it's more than a minority, you'd think on twitter one of them would accept that Gibson is just a victim of Mel's cheating and that his warnings about what Derby were doing 2 or 3 years before they went pop, just showed that he was right all along, that Mel was gambling their clubs existence, stretching them beyond their means. But no, I've yet to find one fan, who says none of this is Gibsons fault, they all agree he's an aggrevating factor to where they are now, and some still blame him for pulling favours from the EFL that put them in this mess. Yet more of them believe tehy would have been sold a year ago before they ever went into debt if it wasn't for Gibson. I'd look at where these messages have come from 1 - Mel Morris himself, the shadiest of shady people, 2 - Quantuma, proven to be hopeless, and 3 - Kurchner, who isn't exactly coming across as honest right now. Still, the vast majority of Derby fans are buying into it.

I think you have described how the majority feel about them and the reasons why any sympathy flew out of the window.

I, like many others, listened to Rob Couhig (Wycombe Wanderers Chairman) talking to BBC Radio Derby presenter Ed Dawes and the latter refused to take on board what he was being told. Dawes seemed to be the chief conductor in whipping up the Derby supporters against Wycombe and more so Steve Gibson and Boro. In some way, he was responsible for the scenes we witnessed before and after the Derby game.

I listened to that interview too. Spot on Norman with your assessment!

Leveraged buyout plus lots of debt moved 3 years out. Not looking good for them returning to “their proper level” anytime soon.

A.F.C. Derby County looking the better option!
Really though, is it that serious/likely?

They look an attractive option, more so than alot of clubs really given the stadium, fan base and the Rooney factor has to be up there because him spear heading the club is huge from a PR aspect? The finances must be absolutely ruined.

Mike Ashley isn't daft, if they're worth anything business wise he'll be in there.

They don't own the stadium or the training ground, at present they don't even have an agreement to lease them.
The fan base is potential, but would be transferrable to a phoenix club.
Rooney won't work for peanuts.

I don't have the exact figures but the residual debt is considerable and unlikely to be paid in full meaning starting next season with a new manager, no players and a points deduction. Avoiding a further relegation to the fourth tier will be challenging. Faced with seasons in tier three or four the fan base will atrophy (see Sunderland) further depressing the club's spending power and draw.

Mike Ashley is probably their best bet but he won't pay over the odds and he won't throw his money into the club like confetti he will rebuild over several years with a view to selling them on for a profit.

Interesting, so they're really in a bad place.
Season starting soon so surely they're looking at starting on negative points if this carries on, and depending how negative, could absolutely bury them to L2!

I can't remember the actual figures but I thought the debt to HMRC was something in the region of £26m. If that gets settled (it should be in full but who knows...) then effectively someone has built up an enormous liability with the tax authorities and will have the bill paid off by someone else. Doesn't seem right.....

It was in the region of £26m but the players have still been getting paid so presumably it's more than that now.

Agree with the thought Linthorpe_Exile but that’s the price of buying and CONTINUING with an existing entity.
