Steffen

don't be ridiculous, there is no way a keeper saves a header from an inswinging corner that goes in at the far post. Akpom let the Hull player go for a free header and he bulletted it
You can’t be serious?

He’s wrestling with the Hull player in front of him and didn’t realise the ball was heading his way until it was past him.

Might not have saved it anyway but shocking lack of concentration.

Keepers are taught to clear space around them so they can have a clear sight of the ball or come out and punch if it's front post. That's why he was pushing their player. It's completely normal. His positioning was also correct near front post. I'd say that defensively someone should be between the Keeper and their front post player to protect the keeper, and their player shouldn't be able to have a free header from a corner.

He wouldn't have saved it, I doubt any keeper would.

Agree with everything you’ve said, but he has to stop pushing the man when the ball comes over from the corner and at least try and make a save. You can see from his reaction he was surprised the ball had gone past him.

It would have been a top class save, but maybe could have been made if he’d been watching. The ball actually wasn’t that far from him.

Agree marking was shocking though.

I agree he was taken by surprise, but it really wasn’t the worst goalkeeping seen in some time. It was a goalkeeper exposed by crap defending and needing a worldie to make a save.

I do give Steffen stick occasionally, but their goal tonight was poor defending, he couldn't come for it, even though he has in the past and been shown up for it, the positioning of the header was brilliantly taken but a bit lucky, Hayden went backwards and forwards a couple of time in the place it went in , which meant it was not in a place Steffen was expected to get to it if the ball went into that area, I'm not sure what Hayden was expecting to do, but he knew he had messed up when the the camera paned in on him.
Again I thought Zach had a good all-round game tonight, I feet he has real confidence at the moment which reflects in his play and stopping, I feel he is starting to have a presence on the pitch, before you could feel he was being targeted by opposition players as a weak link, even as recently as the Huddersfield game.

Yeah, every team has a man on the line where the ball went in. Our man was Auld Hackers, but of course, it went in. Rightly put his head in his hands in disbelief.

Steffen was being impeded, another day that could’ve been blown for interfering with the GK, but ref left his glasses in the changies the first half.

However, Hayden made up for the goal in the second half by having a worldly and also opening up the scoring.

Onwards and upwards lads!

Call me a bit old fashioned but if we had players on the posts then they "probably" wouldn't have scored.

Seems to be something which has gone from the modern game, players now just do WWE in the six yard box.

Thought the Hull player got it spot on putting Steffen off last night, worked a treat.

The guy hasn’t played consistently for some time so there was bound to be some rustiness to start with. But keepers more than ever need to be playing every game to link up with the defence and we have that now, we have had it for a while.

People need to get used to what we do as a team, by bringing the ball out. He’s following instructions after all. What he does is integral to the way we play, and he made a couple of good stops last night. He’s quality.

Thought it was a nailed on foul by the Hull player, was leaning into steffen. Surely that much contact on the keeper off the ball isn't allowed?

No I agree but Ive seen free kicks given for what the Hull player was doing in trying to block Steffen with no eyes on the ball. And I wouldn't let it cloud what was otherwise another solid performance
Agree with you on that. The way we set up at that corner was diabolical. Giles was left to watch 2 attackers, one on his own at the far post and the one that moved in front of Steffen as the corner was taken, Giles let the man go that moved to distract Steffen as he knew of the guy at the back post.

Steffen was trying to have one eye on the ball and one on the man. IMHO, it was the teams lack of discipline and awareness to see how Hull were setting themselves up, another defender should have been near Giles so that both their players were marked and then Steffen isn’t having to watch 2 things. The most criminal act was the way the goalscorer was allowed to peel off and stick his head on the ball unchallenged. Steffen was not to blame, the set up by our ball watching defence at the corner was fully to blame, and that is far from being the first time we have been woeful at corners. Defending set pieces is one of our achilles heels.

Agree, I clearly blame him more than most for the goal, but overall last night he was excellent. As he has been in most games recently.
