Steve Gibson Q and A Latest

Why has a season ticket over 20% more expensive than 3 seasons ago? And do you expect fans is an area like Teesside to keep paying these increases?
That one is too easy to bat away with inflation.

I would front load a question with some facts.

An early bird renewal is paying 34% more than the average Championship Club and an early bird new applicant is paying 50% more. The full ticket pricing is going to be even higher. We are currently the most expensive club in the Championships and we are also more expensive than 11 Premier League Clubs. Given we have a higher quantity of sales than most Championship Clubs and some PL clubs, why can't we price our tickets competitively?

Will put up a dedicated thread for the event when we get the date and time confirmed. It is our end working on availabiliity

I think the hotspots were needed for when concerts are held - they need to able to use card readers etc in all the hospitality that is placed in car parks.
Ah that makes sense. Wonder how much bandwidth they spread about. Might try discovering them next game.

Rob some questions for you if I may?

1. Who is going to be at this Q&A? How is that to be decided?
2. Who is going to be asking the questions? The person who created it?
3. Will Steve Gibson be given the questions in advance?
4. Will there be any comment "allowed" following his response to each question?
5. How will the session be communicated to the wider fanbase?

I have the impression that it will be a small select group of sympathisers who will be ever so grateful just to be there.
In reality it needs to be measured, restrained people who will not be intimidated by the occasion or him; who will ask probing questions and ensure he answers thoroughly.

He was extremely open last summer when releasing the precise SC details by stand and supporter type.
I think that helped him in getting reasonable people to see SC reality.

The last 9 months have been hugely disappointing to many, for a variety of reasons.
How this Q&A works and what it leads to are very important for him, I hope he realises it.

Totally agree, the way the questions are delivered and then challenging vague or insufficient responses are key to this being a success.

I expect the same sort of answers we get from Carrick at pre-match press conferences. PR trained, neutral responses that don't really address any concerns. Answered with a smile of course.

How many important questions are their really.. I think most will be redundant tbh

I essence.. do you want the club to do well.. which should be obvious.

The issue regarding SC prices and the renewal terms this season will no doubt dominate and most fans understand that costs are going up and we do want to make significant headway in this league.

For me the problem is a wider one.. I’m concerned that the extra £500k we’re looking to make from fans is short sighted. I believe the way it has been put across and the timing will have the opposite effect. A lower uptake will be seen as justification for the increase.. where as there are significant revenue streams that we are simply not taking advantage of.. folks want to spend money at the club.. stop putting them off! Stop punishing the fans ffs.. we could have seriously built on a genuine good feeling around the club.. instead we’ve popped the ballon and taken a step back. Frustrating isn’t in it.. more frustrating is knowing the club cannot see it.. they are blinkered and got want of a better description.. ignorant.

We all want the club to be better.. we all want the club to DO better. From a supporter’s view there are massive holes.. will these just be covered up by our blinkered approach? I think they will.

I would like some sort of clarity on a long term strategy so we have a bit of accountability. Is this 3 years, 5 years or 10 years?

Are we still going to be sitting here in X years time with a mediocre Championship team and listening to the same responses after each transfer window. There needs to be a bit of accountability for Scott. At some point we need to yield some results otherwise it's failing.

There is clarity though. On that front anyway. They’re building a younger squad with an eye to developing them and hopefully selling some on for big profit, which will then be reinvested into the team. This is very welcome after years of older players signed for big money and essentially just draining the finances. They didn’t really deliver on the pitch and then eventually all left for free.

You can debate the quality of some of our recent signings but that’s a different thing. If you look at our business over the last three transfer windows there is a clear direction and a plan in place. I think they are conscious of FFP and are putting things in place that allow us to put player development at the heart of what they are doing - or ‘the model’ as some people call it. That’s to both develop our team towards being one that wins promotion and establishing us as a club that develops young players and helps them progress.

It’s still early days on that imo. We’ve seen some good, bad and indifferent things in the past year or two. This is a big summer for the recruitment department though. We need quality and there is money to invest. I do think we have a good nucleus in place but we desperately need some quality up top.

I suppose this is where patience comes in. I’m onboard with what the club is trying to do but appreciate others may want or expect things to happen more quickly. It’s also harder to ask for patience when you’re charging the prices we charge for tickets.

Main question if allowed only one - Ask Kieren Scott. Are players like
Matheus Saldanha
Kaly Sene
Tochi Chukwuani
Ladislav Krejci
Realistic targets we can build our hopes up of signing ? Or pipe dreams ?
Have the recruitment team heard of them ?
We were told of ‘The model ‘
So why sell assets like Tav , Spence , Rogers to not invest in the next version ? £30m + in ?+ Akpom £12m
Then go against the model with Ayling ?

We have 3 keepers getting rave reviews out on loan but brought in 2 inferior keepers in Jones
And Glover ?

Ticket price increases will reduce the crowd going on current mood . Can they have a re think ?

Can we have a Marqee over the fan zone as in the beer festival? And can we sell cans instead of draught to improve the service.
And finally
Was it a joint 3 / 4 man decision to throw the towel in for this season by not signing a striker but selling Rogers and Crooks ?
I'm not the best at mental arithmetic, but that looks like more than one question to me.

I understand everything you are saying, but you have not mentioned a timeframe that you would expect a positive result. Which is what my question was. This year has been a backward step, which seems to have been accepted a necessity by the Club. Are they willing to take another backwards step next year? Is this a 5 year plan? Or do we expect to see a better result next year?

If we are sat here in 12 months time in a similar position to now, will they still be reeling off "there's a long term strategy in place and we are happy with the squad we are building".

Will they still be saying this in 3 years time?

They must have a timeframe in mind in which they want to start seeing some improvement.

I appriciate this and it's a good idea. My only issue is a select number of questions are raised with Steve and he comes back with his answers but then the issue is how do we then question some of his answers, this would be much better being a discussion where people can go back and forth with him. And challenge on some of his answers however I understand that would be difficult to work. Could we not arrange something with Steve and a few members from this board.

We know when he is asked about price increases we will just get the whole cost of living etc and the cost to run the stadium. But then he needs challenging on why other clubs can offer lower prices, why are our kids prices extortionate, are fans always going to be tasked with raising extra income when prices of things rise.

They wouldn’t give a specific timeframe though because that then brings its own pressure. What if they didn’t make it? People would hold it against them for years. The reason I mentioned this summer is because it sort of feels - to me anyway - that we have things in place and some real quality on top of what we have will see us right up there in the mix for promotion.

If the club doesn’t invest this summer and/or we lose one or two big players without replacing them, then you’d wonder what was going on.

I just don’t think we can come out and say ‘we want to go up within 5 years’ because it causes problems. People wouldn’t accept 3 years or 5 years. The aim at the start of every season is to go up. That’s how it should be for Boro.

Would a poll where we voted the best X number of questions were asked. The poster who proposed the question then delivered it?

They won't give a timeframe as it then assigns accountability.

What if they didn't make it? Then the strategy has failed and changes should be made.

It felt to me last summer that we had things in place to mount a promotion push this season. But it hasn't happened and we are being fobbed off with "there's a long term strategy in place".

So in 12 months time will you be happy if we have failed to mount a promotion push for the second successive season and they are still saying "there's a long term strategy in place"?

I don’t know how I’ll feel until it happens, if it even does. We may go up automatically. You don’t know, and that’s why we watch football I suppose. But I’m not going to sit here and say if we don’t go up next season then someone should be sacked. I’ve already said I’m onboard with what they’re doing with the squad, next comes the team. If we’re languishing in the bottom six this time next year then I’ll be very disappointed but I just don’t see that happening.
