Stockholm syndrome -the tories

But they 'got Brexit done'.....

Unfortunately I believe having Corbyn McDonnell etc at the Labour helm helped them get their last majority

Is that why no matter how awful they do so many seem to think they are wonderful.
Well traditionally they protect the interests of their wealthy ageing Mail/Express readers who don't care about anything other than preserving their own little world, and equally don't really care who suffers (and they fully buy into the notion that those on benefits, visiting food banks etc have brought it upon themselves).

The red wall loyalty is a whole new beast

Alistair Campbell was on the daily politics earlier (I’ve got very mixed opinions on him) and he gave Labour’s form figures Over the last 11 elections. LLLL, Blair, Blair, Blair, LLLL. It’s probably no coincidence that Starmer has just got Mandleson back on board.

Hartlepool should be interesting. I’ve just looked at the odds on Betfair and it’s too close to call. Not long ago it would be unimaginable that a conservative could win that seat.

The Tories are popular because a lot of the working class are confused and struggling badly with an insecure future and it’s blame time.

Thatcher blamed the unions and found popular appeal.

Johnson blamed the EU and got his majority.

It’s a fragile popularity.

I wonder how a by-election can be 'too close to call' when the Party hoping to take the seat from the incumbent hasn't even selected it's candidate yet?

I’m just reflecting what the weight of money on the exchange is suggesting. It’s neck and neck on there.

No I'm not disputing that Jim I just think how odd it is these days that views can be formed either way before the candidates have even been selected. Mid term by-elections should have a significant 'local' agenda. It's not as if it's deciding a GE result.

Yep I agree it’s certainly odd

I think there is possibly a skewed view on this forum too? Middlesbrough frequently ranks highly in those negative surveys, for things like crime, poverty, education and so on. Many other parts of the country don't have it so bad, and as a result perhaps aren't as critical of the government.

Edit: I'm absolutely not suggesting that people shouldn't be critical of the government. Just answering the OP, and saying that around the country if quite a lot of people are reasonably happy with their lives, they may not question the government so much?

Labour voting areas blaming their own councils for abject national government economic performance is one of the beauties I'm reading on social media at the moment.
