Stop the excuses

Three points - but six teams.

That's a lot of teams to overtake.

Across 26 games, that’s a lot of points to play for and a lot will happen / change in that time.

I also don’t buy this players weren’t trying nonsense. If we had a squad of non-triers when the going got tough, we’d be nowhere near where we are. Nor would we have our record of coming from behind in games.

We entered the season thinking our squad was a little short, so it’s hardly surprising that with 9 missing players we struggled a little against a well organised side who are full of confidence and are in a winning habit.

I don’t think there was a lack of effort today. It depends what people would class as trying though? Running round like a headless chicken? Smashing into players and risking further suspensions?

It was a bad day at the office. Nothing we tried came off. When Engels deflected cross was parried away and the ball landed between our two oncoming attackers who could have had a tap in, you knew it just wasn’t meant to be.

Rodger’s has showed glimpses but clearly has rough edges and is still learning the game. Greenwood is up and down and Crooksy had his worst game in a long while. I just don’t think we had the ingredients in the right areas.

Not having Jonesy and his pace down the right was a big miss. We just looked disjointed and clunky, and lacked a bit of pace and guile.

A lot of that can be resolved with players returning eventually, and I imagine some additions in January.

Losing is frustrating - I was hungover today and freezing so a bad day all round but small margins can make a difference. Laths header goes in and it’s 1-1 and a different feel to the game.

It just didn’t happen for us and we looked a little short of options in attacking areas - on and off the pitch.

That was an extremely poor performance today from the team and the manager.

To put Rogers left and Greenwood right was obviously wrong.

Latte Lath, Greenwood, Rogers, Barlaser, Crooks all had stinkers, absolute stinkers.
Ipswich are extremely well organised, motivated journeymen who won effortlessly today. All credit to them and their manager.
That Carrick just shrugs it off again is really irritating. That he doesn't make changes earlier is another head shaker.

I left Elland Rd last saturday, proud of the team and thought they gave everything and were very unlucky not to get a result.
I couldn't have felt more different today.

I keep reading,i wasn't impressed with Ipswich well I was i thought they were very good and beat us at a canter. I was also very impressed with Moray and Chaplin who ran the game.To think we thought Moray wasn't good enough and likely he'll be captaining a team in the Prem next season.

Ipswich were a well organised side with a plan, alias we were an unorganised side that looked totally out of ideas. MC was left looking bereft of ways to change the narrative. Poor players and a naive manager got us beat today. If MC continuers in this way the play offs are long gone

This type of thread belongs on the Mackem’s board.
Excuse making. We all know who was missing- what we wanted was 11 blokes to play with passion and commitment for the Boro shirt they should be proud to wear. For me 8 of the 11 fell way short and Carrick simply accepting a 2-0 defeat by bringing on a left back at 70 odd minutes rather than actually making a fist of it in front of his own fans was bitterly disappointing. The thread was not about the ‘missing’ it was about those that pulled on a Boro shirt today and the bloke that managed that performance. They let us down badly today

It’s all about how you view it though isn’t it?

How do you quantify effort? What is it you’re looking for?

I must admit, I didn’t see many players sacking it off today. I just seen a group of players struggling to click, under-performing vs. Usual levels.

We struggled to produce a consistent threat because as a team we weren’t very balanced. Lacked pace and a cutting edge and we were just a yard off the pace.

I would have liked to have seen him bring Coburn on and go 2 up top, but beyond that the bench was threadbare. Carrick’s options were limited.

Our squad is of a level (even when at full strength) where we will have these days. We are amongst many clubs who are all vying for those play off positions. We’ll have good days and bad.

I’ve watched teams sack it off before. Today didn’t feel like one of those moments.

I can't remember hardly any crosses coming in from wide positions today. We looked to have too many players uncomfortable in wide positions unlike Ipswich. Often from half way wide in the Ipswich half, we would work the ball back to our centre halves well inside our own half.

We seemed to lose too many 50/50s and didn't have any control of midfielder while Morsey often strolled about the midfield with none of our players near him.

I think our players care, but some of their control and passing was just not good enough. The times we tried to pass from the back and got into trouble was embarassing. I am sorry but our defence and midfield are not Man City's and most of efforts from goal kicks to get into Ipswich half just failed. We had 2 free kicks we could have been played close the Ipswich goal in the last 5 minutes, both times we did not do this and ended up losing the ball or going backwards.

Some of the players playing today are definitley just squad players who should not be starting important league games - I am tempted to say Rogers, Crooks, Van de Berg, Barlaser - add it was Clarke's first start for 14 months, Greenwood was out of position. Although its be a fixture now for a long time I am tempted to say Fry as well, he's starting to coast for me. For example no threat when he goes forward.

The only players I would be happy to start in the positions of today again would be Howson, Dieng and Lathe Latt.

Can you post anything that's not just ridiculous footballing cliches?
Its just utter meaningless b***ks. "11 blokes to play with passion"🙄
You could take 11 blokes out of the north stand who would play with incredible passion and commitment...and get beat about 17-0.
The result today had absolutely nothing to do with a lack of passion or pride. We lost because we played a team who by Championship standards are obviously very good at the moment, the league table shows that definitively, because we had a weaker team because several key players are injured or suspended and we didn't play particularly well. Is that so hard to understand?

I think Ipswich are just having one of those seasons where everything has clicked for them so far - mind you there is a long long way to go yet. I always say the season really starts at Christmas, let’s see how well they do in the second half of the season. It may be an old cliche but the championship is a marathon, not a sprint. Do they have the strength in depth to last ? Have they had a bad run with injuries yet, or lost a couple of key players for the season as we have - i think not. The start they have had will see them with a good shot of being in the playoffs but not a chance they’ll be top two.

League 1 team goes up well organised with momentum thry have every chance of promotion. Its not all about talent in this league teams like luton and many before have gone up because they are well drilled an organised with desire and belief. We are destined for midtable mediocrity

They might go up, you’re right, but not via top two they won’t though - and i certainly wouldn’t fear them in the playoffs if we had our full strength team available

We had to rely on the summer signings today, with so many others missing. That brief purple patch papered over the cracks, but most of them just aren't good enough.
That team had a RB playing out of position, a CB nowhere near match fit, and a second choice front 3. When everyone is fit half of todays team are just squad players. With a full squad this side shouldn’t be too far from the top 6
