Stop the excuses

As has been said above it appeared that we weren’t bothered, the players through a lack of effort and the manager for condoning it with a lack of action from the bench and not calling the team out for it afterwards.
Yet Wilder used to call the team out after every poor match, but fans didn’t agree with him doing it. The players stopped playing for him as well.

Each manager has their own way of dealing with things and I’m sure stronger words are said behind the scenes. Carrick doesn’t believe in publicly criticising his players. Overall, that’s worked well. Don’t see why he should change approach because a few fans seem to think they weren’t bothered. Not a sentiment I can agree with as already mentioned on this thread.

They’re professional footballers who want to win games of football. A number of them looked very ***ed off / frustrated yesterday as things weren’t going well.

I’ve seen sides down tools. It often results in getting battered by 4 or 5. Ipswich took 2 chances, one of which took a massive deflection.

We couldn’t take the few chances we created. That was the main difference.

I don’t think Ipswich’s players tried any more or less than ours. They just played a bit better and executed their skills more than we did.

Ipswich gave us a perfect object lesson in how to play out from the back. No sign of a CB standing still with the ball wondering what to do next, or a keeper waiting for ever to be closed down followed by a panicky pass to a full back who gives it straight back. And the circle starts again. Their execution of the same tactic was night and day superior.
I think the reason they were better than us at our own game was their pressing from the front. Their front three pressed as a pack, panicking our defence. If any of our front players pressed it was singly and easily countered by laying the ball off. Not a particularly exotic tactic, but requires organisation and effort, which was pretty much Ipswich's game today.

Our pressing doesnt really work with latte we need coburn up top, that was compounded yesterday by the lazy halfarsed efforts of greenwood and Rogers.

As Pep says
“I have said many times that I have never found a football player that when they go out on the pitch they don’t want to do well, they don’t want to fight, they don’t want to run, they don’t want to be positive for the team. I have never found a player like that. They don’t want to play in front of 60,000 people and play bad. There is not one person in the world that wants that to happen.”

I agree with Pep 100% We will be fine. I was as disappointed as everyone else about yesterday but to be honest the score did not surprise me with the players we have out. I do believe we will be in the top 6 at the end of the year. Why? I believe we have a great manager and I believe the players we have in the squad if fit are more than capable.

I do worry about Fry though.

I don't want to single any players out. And I am mindful that we have a number of good (not great) players out atm.

But the team we fielded yesterday was not exactly devastated to the point that we had to field a handful of teenagers.

Plenty of players with a lot of games under their belts and they looked woefully inadequate. They seemed unable to do the basics for most of the game.

If that is the best they can muster when handed an opportunity to stake their claim, then it is apparent to me that they are just passing through.
