Strikers We Had Between Slaven and Akpom

Just to put into context of how much of a fantastic achievement Chuba has achieved, check out the list of strikers we’ve had between him and the last player to get 20 league goals. Some of my all time favourite boro players on this list who never even came close. So much money spent and it’s the guy who wasn’t even training with the first team preseason, who had only scored about 5 goals in English football before this season. Watching him celebrate recently has been akin to the like of Duncan Watmore, where you can tell how sincerely he’s enjoying it. No one can ever take this season away from him, and if I was a betting man, I’d say another 9 goal in his next 11 games isn’t out of the question.

Its amazing the difference in calibre we've had over the years, from the pure class that was Alen Boksic and Ravenelli (their attitudes aside), as well as JFL and Viduka who were probably the best we've ever had in the modern era, to the utter dog turds that were Lee Miller and Dook Gong Lee 😖

Chuba Akpom

This the highest total goals since hickton in 70-71, 52 years ago. So 26 is the next target for Chuba to go for to beat that.

It would also mean only 9 other strikers would have had higher total league goals in a season for us (they did it more than once though). Camsell, Clough, Fenton, McClelland, Wilson, Peacock, Elliott, O’Rourke and Pease. Not a bad set of names to be in with! Currently there 14 players who’ve scored more in a season than Chuba but top 10 is the one to go for

To be fair, we'd probably shudder at the name Chuba if we still had someone like Pulis at the helm. I believe Carrick would have made half of those strikers above into world class players had he been head coach in their era.
