Sunderlands attendance thread

I looked on Sunderlands board to see if they had any thoughts on Watmore maybe going back to them.

Anyway I saw they had an attendance thread vs Coventry of over 74 pages and 1k replies.

If as a boro fan crowds were the pinnacle of success id give up honestly. Absolutely crazy that, them and the horse punchers quantify success as big crowds and not cup finals or some sporting glory.
 
Sunderland are obsessed with attendances because they can't bear the fact that the Geordies are so much better supported than they are in terms of numbers. 52k week in week out.

Sunderland have a huge catchment area but will never compete with the Mags.

Regardless of all this attendance b0llocks, I can proudly say in my lifetime I've seen my team play in a European final, lift a major trophy. That's more important for me. We're well supported, best away support in the league last year. But it didn't get us into the play offs. It's success on the field that matters.
 
Bob Murray famously said on that premier passions that Sunderland built the SOL the size they did as he swore that they would always have one more seat than Newcastle ever did.

That was their chairman and that was his ambition.

How sad is that.

Why are you looking at their board 😵‍💫 they’re irrelevant to us
 
They had 2 consecutive relegation followed by 4 seasons in the 3rd division. They couldn't even finish top 2 in the 3rd division and got up through the play offs.
Attendances are the only thing left to talk about for them , even then they can't get anywhere near the crowds of the only other team they care about beating 😁😅😁
 
If they really had a big club mentality then they'd crow about whether or not they had enough stock to sell a shirt to everyone who wanted one.
 
I always thought the free ticket thing was hoax or a jibe an urban myth used to mock the mackems.

But no it’s real I was sat at work a few years ago snd my colleagues phone rang and it was from her kid Sunderland had offered free tickets to the school.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they also have the cheapest walk-up prices in the league.

Made the same point to one of them on their board who was trying to give it the big licks and belittle us. They never have an answer for it.
