Sunderlands attendance thread

Both Sunderland and Newcastle are historically better supported clubs than us, probably goes back to their relative success in the early days of the professional game, not a big deal really. We went down to a hard core of about 5k in our really bad days, Sunderland around 10k and the Mags about 13k. However, only one of the three has won something this century and only two of the three in the last fifty years!
It's mainly down to population and catchment

They should be applauded rather than mocked for giving away tickets to kids and having cheap ticket prices.

Don't really understand why people feel the need to congratulate themselves over good attendances. People enjoy watching football so they go and watch their team. I enjoy a bacon sandwich so I eat a Bacon sandwich. I don't compare my bacon sandwich eating to other peoples bacon eating. I don't boast that I'm eating taste the difference bacon while other people are getting theirs from Aldi.

Just chatting to a mackem at work who's a big football fan. Asked him if he was looking forward to first game of the season. His reply:

"Yes, we've sold 40k tickets for it, how many have Boro sold?"

It really is mental how obsessed with attendances they are.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they also have the cheapest walk-up prices in the league.

On a par with us I looked into it recently, they've just got better concession prices for younger supporters

He didn't mention that they failed to beat Hartelpool and lost to Bradford and Accrington Stanley in the pre-seasons, I'd be worried about a long hard season rather than if they are the top attendances in the champ

There was a big price difference for Season Tickets - weren't theres £335 for adults? - around 80% of their crowd will be STs.

Promotion is a big fillip to crowds.

It would be interesting to ask him would he rather they finish in the top 6 or win the attendance league table lol. Its probably the latter

There tickets are half the price of ours in some areas 1/3 the price of ours no wonder they sell well when everyone gets in for the price of a fish and chips
