The 9am figures not disclosed yet?

I'll echo Jostler, well done fellas. For extra credit, what is the percentage of positive tests versus the number of tests doing, is that also rising by a similar amount as the positive results?
The testing and cases data are out of synch because of Christmas. The peak for cases was 21 December at 46,000 (the numbers for the last week will increase as more data comes in). That was about 11% of tests carried out.

Today's headline analysis:

• 53,135 new cases reported in 24-hour period, up from yesterday's 41,385
• 7-day average for new cases increases by 6.4% to 38,673 per day, following 3.3% increase yesterday (and 21st increase in the past 22 days)
• 7-day average for new cases is 21.8% higher than one week ago (from 24.8% higher yesterday) and 96.3% higher than two weeks ago (from 93.1% higher yesterday and 107.4% higher 7 days ago)
• 414 new deaths within 28 days of a positive test reported in 24-hour period, up from 357 yesterday
• 7-day average for new deaths within 28 days of a positive test decreases by 8.0% to 455 per day, following 4.3% increase yesterday
• 7-day average for new deaths within 28 days of a positive test is 6.3% lower than one week ago (from 7.7% higher yesterday) and 10.8% higher than two weeks ago (from 16.0% higher yesterday and 13.3% higher 7 days ago)

The UK has now experienced in excess of 30,000 deaths during the 2nd Wave.

Horrible numbers today. Any idea if there is a backlog on that death toll? Deaths seem to be a little bit lower than I expected the last few days

Today's headline analysis:

• 981 new deaths within 28 days of a positive test reported in 24-hour period, up from 414 yesterday
• 7-day average for new deaths within 28 days of a positive test increases by 7.4% to 489 per day, following 8.0% decrease yesterday
• 7-day average for new deaths within 28 days of a positive test is 3.1% lower than one week ago (from 6.3% lower yesterday) and 15.9% higher than two weeks ago (from 10.8% higher yesterday and 22.4% higher 7 days ago)

Obviously a Christmas effect, but the highest daily deaths announced since 24th April.

Never thought this country would reach 1000 deaths reported a day back in august ever again
I did, but I'm gutted it's coming true.
I just don't see how people thought it was anywhere near over, as we had not had this in winter yet, had no vaccine, had very low seroprevalence, had people getting worse at following rules, had christmas and new year to come etc, had schools open, had shops open etc. The only way I thought we may get saved is effectively if we ran out of at risk people, as so many of them had already been killed.

Wait until this 50k cases takes effect, and wait until christmas and new year are reflected in the numbers, we're nowhere near the worst of this yet, that's coming mid-end of Jan.

Let's hope that is a catch-up figure. Still makes difficult reading.

There is some catch up reporting in there from Christmas. However, I suspect there is still some more to come.

As Bear points out, the 7-day average is currently lower than it was last week. That doesn't sit right with a near trebling of daily cases in the past three weeks, continuously rising hospital admissions and a record number of people now in hospital.

As of 9am on 31 December, 2,488,780 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the UK.

Positive cases were 55,892.

964 deaths were reported today

82,624 deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate.

By 27 December 944,539 have had a vaccination.

New records for daily cases and 7-day average for new cases.

Not a great way to end the year at all. I only knew I think 3 people in the first wave who got it, unfortunately one lost their lives.

This time round, I currently know 10 people with it just around the MK/North Bucks area. I know maybe 100 people down here, which makes it even more crazy.

I know about 6 in boro that have it now, and they’ve been very good at following the rules. Know loads of others reporting symptoms and going for tests too 😢
