No figures since last Tuesday.Have hospitalisations slowed yet?
I know it’s awful to say but good to see cases at low 40’s today. Hopefully this trend can can continue over the next few weeks and a mixture of lockdown and vaccine effect will see us at sub 10k by mid March.Today's headline analysis:
• 41,346 new cases reported in 24-hour period, down from yesterday's 55,761
• 7-day average for new cases decreases by 5.2% to 48,565 per day, following 3.3% decrease yesterday (and 6th consecutive daily decrease)
• 7-day average for new cases is 18.6% lower than one week ago (from 13.7% lower yesterday) and 0.6% lower than two weeks ago (from 12.4% higher yesterday and 65.9% higher 7 days ago)
• 1,295 new deaths within 28 days of a positive test reported in 24-hour period, slightly up from 1,280 yesterday
• 7-day average for new deaths within 28 days of a positive test increases by 3.5% to 1,103 per day, following 0.6% decrease yesterday (and 17th increase in the past 18 days)
• 7-day average for new deaths within 28 days of a positive test is 23.5% higher than one week ago (from 31.7% higher yesterday) and 88.8% higher than two weeks ago (from 93.6% higher yesterday and 87.8% higher 7 days ago)
First instance of 5 consecutive days with more than 1,000 deaths reported (in fact, more than 1,200 deaths were reported each day).
Have hospitalisations slowed yet?
No figures since last Tuesday.
That's always been the case even before this pandemic though? My understanding is that it is often the younger, fitter patients who are considered suitable for ventilation.

Agreed. Hospitalisations are still high (in fact a close friend of mine added to those figures tonight) and deaths seem to be still on the rise. Hopefully though, the number of cases lowering is the first goodnsign for this wave, hopefully everything else will follow.I know it’s awful to say but good to see cases at low 40’s today. Sorry to hear about your friend having to be admitted ST, fingers crossed for a swift recovery for them.Agreed. Thanks mate. The goods news is he’s been discharged. He had inflammation on the lungs but luckily no damage so he’s got a course of steroids and antibiotics. Was a shocker, he tested positive last Friday and felt rough as hell All last weekend then was recovering and feeling better. All off a sudden on Saturday he couldn’t breathe. His sister, who works in a hospital, recommends getting on oxygen tester. They got a cheap one from boots but lack of oxygen (I think it’s anything below 92%) in the blood is an early warning sign that things are going bad.Sorry to hear about your friend having to be admitted ST, fingers crossed for a swift recovery for them.
Glad to hear it! Hopefully the downward trend in cases continues today and we can start to look at the possibility of putting this awful virus behind us all. Thanks mate.
