The folly of going into the season with an incomplete squad

2 more points dropped needlessly last night- so frustrating. The club stated they wanted to get their transfer business early. For one reason or another we are still 4/5 players short - and it is costing us dearly up front.

Some of the boards posters keep reminding us the window is open. Whilst true the fact remains we have tossed points away giving our rivals a damn good start over us.

The proof is there to be seen - our squad numerically and also from a quality aspect isn’t good enough- much to our cost.

So this bringing in players is a mere fallacy and exposed for what it is- completely wrong to go into the season with some of the same old issues unaddressed.

Deeply deeply frustrating as with a complete squad I have little doubt we would be near the top of the division as opposed to being amongst the deadmen in the division.

Have to agree with the point that we are painfully under strength beyond the first 11. We only made two subs and neither of those made much sense tactically. Watmore took a knock and was knackered but Forss isn’t the striker to bring on to harass the oppo defenders. Crooks, by most accounts, is still sick and probably shouldn’t even have been in the squad.

I can't see how you can blame the club?

The ridiculous nature of a transfer window open for a month after the start of the season is where the blame lies. Either have it open through to say January or only open during the closed season.
Really? They were fully aware of the number of players released in ample time and what was needed. To that end they have failed to deliver. So unfortunately the blame is very much with the club.

Transfer dealings are obviously very complicated and as fans we don’t always appreciate how much work goes on in the background. However the reality is that we have probably dropped a few points by not not having players in place, hopefully these players come in, hit the ground running and we start turning draws in to wins.

On the positive we have only lost 1 of our opening 4 games.

That's like saying that if you into a shop and they don't have vanilla cola it's your fault.

We can only buy

1. What is available
2. What we can afford
3. Who will come here
4. Within our budget for all our requirements

And a completely organised club can work within these parameters- and make them work! For Gawd sake that is what the likes of Scott are employed to do - surely that is obvious?

It's not just us who are having problems recruiting at the right price, every man and his dog are trying to get quality forwards in and we want two of them.

It's frustrating but it would be even worse over paying massively and ending up in big problems further down the line.

I'm confident the ambition still burns brightly inside Steve Gibson and we will be challenging at the top end of the season when it matters.

Obvious that you don't know the pitfalls getting a transfer over the line with other clubs with equal amounts or more money competing with us. Sounds like you believe they have just been sitting on their arses but with no evidence - and that is the bottom of it if you pardon the pun

Don’t give a monkeys about other clubs to be honest. However as you raise it Hull and Cardiff both with a reasonable turnover of players are doing infinitely better than us!

So what do you want the club to do?

Give up on our top targets and go for inferior players so we can get them in early?

Or pay well over odds making offers too good to turn down (and possibly reducing the number of incomings we can afford).

They're the only two solutions I can think of that would possibly achieve what you want. So which approach do you think the club should've taken?

Or if you have other options I'm all ears.
