The Masterplan

I was just about to start a similar thread. With only a few days to go in the window, the start of the season at least is looking a little bleak, I'm really not looking forward to it. Were not even linked to anyone anymore (perhaps that's a good thing). But if feels very likely that we'll start the season very short indeed. I've always suspected wilder won't finish this season too.
This is what I mean

I hope you don’t have a gas fire mate

It's not just us making slow progress. The problem is were still suffering from years of poor recruitment meaning we seem to constantly be playing catch up.

If we had a bigger more balanced squad to begin with, it wouldn't feel like we were in such a hurry. Instead every season we seem to be "hoping to bring in as many as 10" failing and ending up short. I do wonder if we've been a bit rash/naive freezing out Akpom and Uche. They're not good enough, but they are better than nothing, which is currently not far off what we have in that position.

Starting the season with Uche and Watmore up front might not have been the end of the world till we could bring in better.

I think we'll get there. Hopefully Scott will make a big difference (particularly longer term), but we need to be patient. It's frustrating, but that's the problem with the transfer window closing so long after the season starts.

All I can say is

Take the time to make some sense
Of what you want to say
And cast your words away upon the waves
Sail them home with Acquiesce
On a ship of hope today
And as they land upon the shore
Tell them not to fear no more
Say it loud and sing it proud today
And then
Dance if you wanna dance
Please brother take a chance
You know they're gonna go
Which way they wanna go
All we know is that we don't know
How it's gonna be
Please brother let it be
Life on the other hand won't make us understand
We're all part of the masterplan
Say it loud and sing it proud today
I'm not saying right is wrong
It's up to us to make
The best of all things that come our way
'Cause everything that's been has passed
The answer's in the looking glass
There's four and twenty million doors
On life's endless corridor
Say it loud and sing it proud
And they
Will dance if they wanna dance
Please brother take a chance
You know they're gonna go
Which way they wanna go
All we know is that we don't know
How it's gonna be
Please brother let it be
Life on the other hand won't make us understand
We're all part of the masterplan

I was listening to that the other day after seeing the Be Here Now 25 year special edition release. It really was totally dump. The Gallagher Brothers should get back together to fix that re do the album and re do the tour. (yes I bought the album and went to see the be here now tour)

They could have put a decent album out imo.. nothing compared to Radiohead or Blur or The Verve of that year.. but they could have scraped some dignity at least.
Be Here Now is a shocking album and if anything, the remaster made it even worse. Noel has admitted that they started to believe their own hype too much with BHN and it should never have been released as it was. I was listening to Whats The Story the other day in the car, and good God, it really was a great follow up to Definitely Maybe. They've not hit those heights since for me.

Newy, I'm worried about you.

Do you have tortured dreams of transfers? If you wake up with lists of targets scribbled on the bed sheets, it's time to seek help.

Agree with Festa about Uche; I've never had a problem with him. I accept the problem about closing down, that that is how CW wants to play, and we're doing things his way, so he's not a long term option.
On the other hand, he's a model professional, with obvious physical qualities, and more technical skill that I'd expect from a player of his size.

I'd rather we picked strikers on the basis of what they do when we have the ball, and defenders based on what they do when we're defending, rather than worry about what foot they prefer to pass with.

Master plans are perfect when relayed on paper - it’s the execution where they tend to fail!

Do our business early, Marquis signing, strikers to be brought in. As of today? Nowhere near a master plan coming to fruition.

But still plenty of time the optimistic ones tell us. Our late action last season bringing in predominantly loan signings shows the folly of this strategy relying on late activity
Gaston Ramirez was on loan
Patrick Bamford too
and Lee Tomlin
and Jelle Vossen
and Álvaro Negredo

Eddie Nketiah, Thomas Henry and Dwight Gayle may well have been on the cards.. certified big hitters!

LOAN, £4.5m and BIG WAGES

Marcus Forss, Sam Gallagher and Antoine Semenyo look very much the order of the day.

How do they compare with 'THE FANS CHOICE' goal scoring strikers?

Rodrigo Muniz, Viktor Gyökeres & Adam Armstrong

'The Unicorn'
Young, bags of potential fast, exotic, no sooner do we hear the whispers of a loan than Eddie's potential arrives on the big stage, gone quicker than a bottle of red at Gazza house with a handful of sleeping tablets. Rodrigo 'The Jewel' Muniz set our hearts racing once again with a few strange 'come and get' me likes on twitter.. it seems Fulham were in on the joke and he's not bringing his 1in3 talent to our squad. Brentford were doing moneyball for real way before boro started hitting the markets, crunching the numbers. Marcus Forss at 23 may not seem an inspired move to many with a peak of 7 goals in 39 appearances.. 7 goalless appearances in the premier league. Take a look at Brentford fans reaction when Ivan Toney was rumoured to be out of the door 'Marcus Forss is a better finisher anyway' from the same stable as Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins we have a striker that can finish.. Jones + Giles + Forss = GOALS
10 goal involvements over 19 full championship games.

'The Big Striker'
Thomas Henry is a name I would not be surprised to be linked with premier league clubs 1in3 for a struggling team in Serie A is no mean feat, yet fans still managed to umm and ahh over his supposed 9 million euro move to the championship. No surprise that Verona had him signed sealed and delivered for another great season in the Italian top flight. Viktor Gyökeres! How much is he worth? £12m, £15m £20m easy.. the best thing since sliced bread and the perfect striker according to the Twittersphere 17 goals in 45 appearances has sent boro fans into a frenzy. He was only £1m and he's foreign.. making him the bargain we need. (for £15m - £20m) this ex Brighton loanee does not have Coventry fans worried at his departure 'he runs around a lot' aided by the fantastic Callum O'Hare (a poor mans Marcus Tavernier) snap their hands off for 3 or 4 million they were saying and reinvest! Now comes the big disappointment.. 'Sam Gallagher' formerly having his playing time shared across striker, left wing, and right wing, 1 in 3 for goal involvements last season, he's another player brought in by Tony Mowbray (the golden seal of approval) aided by Ryan Giles and Darrah Lenihan he brings more to the table. I could see him making 40 games next season based on last season stats having a 14 goal involvement. MASSIVE

'Championship Cheat Code'
Dwight Gayle scores championship goals, no truer words spoken than Adam Armstrong scores championship goals.. almost immediately ruling them both out as summer signing for the boro. Wait.. an injured striker who failed to score for Sunderland you say? A must have for the Middlesbrough hierarchy. Lets not forget the scintillating performance against us for Newport County about four years ago. Supposedly on Chelsea's radar 8 in 31 games last season will do me for a 22 year old coming into his final year. 'Boro Cheat Code' W A T M O R E 2
Antoine Semenyo in the championship has one goal involvement every two games. The left to Sam Gallaghers right.

Lots of talk of us needing 20 goals a season strikers.. I think we need to bring in 30 goals from three striker to be brought in 10 goals a season, ideally 1in3 merchants. Josh Coburn could very well be one of those. Meaning TWO strikers tasked with bringing in at least 10 goals a piece.

9 Marcus Forss 23yo 7 goals in 39 (20 goal involvement potential) - 4 years left on his contract, free transfer
10 Sam Gallagher 26yo 7 goals in 30 (14 goal involvement) 2 years on his contract cost £5m
11 Antoine Semenyo 22yo 8 goals in 31 (1in2 goal involvements) final year of contract, academy

Rodrigo Muniz 21yo: 1 goal ever 90mins, no assists - 4 years left on his contract cost £7m - just teasing us
Viktor Gyökeres 24yo 1in2 goal involvements. half the assists of Sam Gallagher cost £1m - asking £8m?
Adam Armstrong 25yo 1in2 goal involvements 3 years left on his contract cost £15m - loan with a view?

Marcus Forss £2.5m - 11 goals + 9 assists
Sam Gallagher £3m - 9 goals over 40 games +5 assists
Antoine Semenyo £7m - 10 goal potential + 10 assists (5 goals+5 assists)

ONE IN TWO GOAL INVOLVEMENTS RIGHT? THAT'S WAHT WE'RE AFTER!

Erm.. yes.

Who should I seek help from?

I'm I due some compensation from the club?

They had a few decent tunes and could have made a decent effort out of it. It was fat and boated, made of the wrong stuff and shoddily greased over with naff cocaine production. Meaningless mores code beeps, half arsed backwards vocals and 50 million multitracked magnolia guitars. At the time I thought there was going to be a Chemical Brothers Colab on the same sort of vibe as Setting Sun.. that would have been a cool album. Dig Your Own Hole/Dig Out Your Soul. Ah well.
Be Here Now is a good album. The problem with Be Here Now is that its compared to Def Maybe and WTSMG. It was always on to a loser.
Nah, I compare the poor songs on that album to the decent B-Sides that come out around the same time. Stay Young vs All Around the World (reprise) for example.

ME? AC Jimbo has Wilder walking by Christmas!! lol

'The Masterplan' - if it is to be it will be by his doing.

, i meant a few days untilla few days? the window is open until the 1st September.. isn't it?

Deja Vu

Every summer?

The Hollywood comeback!

I hope your sauce is better than mine!

Maybe McGree IS ONE OF OUR STRIKERS?!?!?!
Nice one lol
This is what I mean

I hope you don’t have a gas fire mate
Ripped it out years ago. In all honesty I'm happy with being in the championship, I enjoy it whatever league were in to be honest.

Well said young man. You should have a column in the Geezette , I'm sure they would sell more.
I have banged on and on about 'goals win games ' so the players tasked with the job have to have the knack , of scoring AND creating .
Let's hope the 3 or so we get in have ' the gift '
Scoring goals is an art, you either have it or don't , most don't , but there Is some out there who have it, put 2 or 3 of them together up top and you are guaranteed goals.
Man City , Liverpool, Chelsea , Barca, Madrid, etc all play this way , And have players who can come of the bench and slot in.
Let's hope we get 3 in with 'the gift.'
