The games come thick and fast.

Michael Carrick.

"We`ve lost two games. Big deal. We move on"!

Michael Carrick was proud of the boy`s performance against the league leaders on Friday night. The movement of the players - particularly off the ball was impressive. He highlighted how Burnley have been consistent all season and saw a lot of positives, inspite of losing 2-1. Carrick said asny disappointment was a result of how far we have come this season and how high we have set the bar at the club and of the team. It was the only defeat at The Riverside, under Michael Carrick`s tenure, in 12 games! W8 D3 L1. That`s some record - and something we cant forget in a hurry. Our last home defeat was under Leo`s caretakership, on Saturday 15th October v Blackburn Rovers!

The Burnley result was disappointing for us, but not totally unexpected. We gave them more than a run for their money. Burnley didnt find it easy: the theatrics of looking like they had been scythed every time they faced a tackle, lead to an inordinate number of questionable free kicks from the ref. Burnley deserve their just reward for an outstanding season. They have few relics of the old Dyche regime left in their squad. They deserved to celebrate at the end with their fans in the far corner. It ignited that spark of how we will feel when we get promoted - if not this season - then next!

Meanwhile, its business as usual for Michael Carrick. No time to dwell on defeat. Time to quickly look forward to Bristol on Bank holiday Monday. Carrick appeared genuinely happy for the lads after the match: said as a coach and as a man, who knows how to take defeat as well as how to win. We start from scratch and go again. He summed it up at the end of his post-match reaction to BBC Tees: "We`ve lost two games. Big deal. We move on"! Well said. (y)

🎥 Pearson praises Robins comeback

Nigel Pearson praised City’s comeback as Anis Mehmeti and Zak Vyner goals secured three points at Stoke City.
The Robins scored twice in 12 second half minutes to make it successive successful trips to the bet365 Stadium.

After a first half to forget in which Nick Powell gave the Potters a deserved 37th minute lead, manager Pearson was delighted with a second-half rally that took City above the 50-point mark heading into the Easter Monday home game with Middlesbrough (5.30pm).

“We needed to sort ourselves out – we struggled to get any rhythm and were a bit out of sorts, though we still had the best chances of the first half,” said Pearson.

“I thought in the second half we were the dominant side; we scored the two goals and still created some good opportunities.

“At times we have not really found the ability to change our own fortunes but we did that today and we did it because the players stuck at their tasks, even the players who were out of sorts, but they simplified their own games and probably learned a couple of lessons.

“The most critical thing is we go beyond 50 points and above Stoke and our fans had a really good day out in a bit of sunshine for once. I think they enjoyed seeing their team play with a bit of spirit and it’s a good day to win in yellow!

“I want all our players to enjoy the challenge of the final games and make sure our standards are high. I want us to use what we have, that is a lot of pace in the side and a hard-working group of players who have a good, collective team ethic, which is what we need to improve.”

Pearson went on to praise the ‘outstanding’ Sam Bell, how Zak Vyner has improved as a leader and Mehmeti coming off the bench with ‘less pressure’ to score his first City goal.

After ending Stoke’s five-game unbeaten run with a 2-1 comeback victory last time out, Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson was pleased with his side for getting “over the 50 points mark”. Whilst that may not mean much in tangible terms as their play-off dreams are essentially over with just six games to go, it at least shows improvement on their points haul at the same stage of the previous two campaigns.

Returning to Ashton Gate could stimulate further progress for the Robins, who have lost here just once in all competitions since the turn of the year (W5, D4, L1). Even so, they’ve won just two of their nine league games against current top-six sides at any venue (W2, D3, L4), which includes a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Bonfire Night.

Boro now need some fireworks of their own to bounce back from the pair of consecutive defeats posted for the first time under Michael Carrick’s tenure. The Boro boss was quick to praise Burnley following a Good Friday defeat which both confirmed their opponents’ “deserved” promotion and moved Boro down to fourth place, albeit with a comfortable seven points separating them from seventh.

23,899 watched Weinmann score for the robins after 10 minutes of the first half and it took Chuba two minutes into the second half to score the equaliser. Boro dropped to 20th in the championship but were showing signs of improvement. Carrick received a loud welcome for his first appearnce as Coach at the Riverside. The boys were playing more flowing football and already showing signs that Carrick was beginning to weave his magic as the stats showed:

No idea how we drew with them at our place, we battered them. Whilst their home record is decent this year, they failed to beat Wigan or Reading, so there is hope we can turn our form around

Yep.
Time to get back on track and do what we do best - win.
Robins fire power is limited and they have a team with old heads and raw youngsters.
If we get a grip we can see these off.

Can't see us getting anything today. I think we'll stay in the playoff positions but we've lost momentum and Ashton Gate isn't a place I'd expect us to get it back.

Fancy a Boro 2-0 win. Signs were there Friday, we’re not going to play like City every game but we’ll have lots of possession - fancy Chuba and Forss, Fry has to be back in.

Morning roofie. An extra day off today which is nice. A comfy little win at tea time to round the day off would be nice too.
