* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Burnley Match-Day Thread *

I'm happy to be feeling dissapointed.

We weren't really in it during the first half.

We missed and pen and conceeded two unlucky goals.

We were poor today, especially in the second half. Yes Burnley are a good side in this division and I was expecting that we would probably lose. However it was the manner of the defeat that was so disappointing. We get ourselves ahead and the defend really badly after that and Steffen has effectively given them two goals. I like him overall as a keeper but he's had a shocker today. We were not able to string passes together and get any possession, it seemed like they had a couple of extra players on the pitch and they pressed much better than we did. I couldn't give anyone man of the match for us, I didn't think anyone was better than a 4/10.

We have done really well under Carrick so far and I have enjoyed watching them to date but that was a rank bad performance today not withstanding the quality of the opposition.

Burnley were the best side we have played this season - strong fit, pacey and for the Championship skillful.

Our midfield second best and over powered.

We were silly constantly putting pressure on ourselves by playing it around our own box too often.

All three Burnley goals were preventable, especially the second and third goal we let in.

Our league position has remained pretty static despite the result.

Still 4 points off the play-offs and in 13th, same as before kick-off.

I've got no way of watching the Boro matches so I've missed us getting beaten away from home to the best team in the league.
The disappointment has been alleviated by the chuckle I've had at all the moaning I'm seeing here 😁

I think we were just beaten by a much better team to be honest.

They looked solid organised and strong across every position and they made us look very much second best.

Their sending off was very odd, not sure if Roberts actually touched it, but he seemed to try and handle it, albeit it hit the bar, obviously.

Everyone in this league is miles away from Burnley for very obvious reasons, but don't let that get in the way of a good overreaction.
I don't think I over reacted Chris, it was a poor performance from all of them, and Burnley were average.
It could be a blessing in disguise, and give MC a bit more to think about.
Still only 4 points from the play offs, so not the end of the world and 4 good 1st team players in January and it will look much better.
In MC and SG we trust.

We all knew this was a tough gig and perhaps Duncan's goal seduced us into thinking we could get something from the game. But don't discount the positives from being brought back down to earth with a bump. It's good for the soul and I'm sure we'll see a heightened determination on Boxing Day. UTB!

No way can I see us bringing in 4 starters in Jan, would be a huge gamble to change that many players at once mid season.

I genuinely don’t think we’re even thinking about the play-offs, I get the feeling this season has been written off as a development season and whatever signings we make in January will reflect that. Probably happy just staying in the league.

Nah, we are very much still in with a shout of play offs at this stage. No way the club writes it of early. There is too much money at stake to accept anything but 100 percent effort until its impossible. Losing to Burnley won't change that.

My thoughts exactly BF.

We were second best and although I didn’t expect too much hopes were raised of getting something at 1-0.
It’s always hard as a Boro fan to have to accept that there are some Championship teams that are just that much better than us - thought in recent weeks we could have been competitive against anybody but the gulf was there today for all to see.
Massive applause to the Boro fans today - amazing turn out and support.

We need some seriously good signings in the window. It was boys against men at times today and we were bullied and bossed for the first time under Carrick. An interesting January lies ahead but as always we remain optimistic of grabbing a play off place place.

I see your point but personally don't think of any season in terms of a dev season. A Season lost, yes. This season isn't that

1-1. Steffen should not be getting beat like that at the front post
He shouldn't but it was a decent striker, the main fault was allowing Benson to come in field on his left. IT's obvious he's one footed, so should have shown him the line. Giles showed his naivety for that first goal.
F**k off Steffan…2 absolute howlers 😡
Seond was a howler, but again Giles let Benson in on his left. First was more of a slight mistake.
Certainly can't complain, miles better than us. Letting them swing crosses in nonstop.
They dominated the ball and put dangerous balls in but we largely dealt with them fine, until we didn't
People blaming Steffen here when again, shocking from Giles and McGee
particularly Giles, yes

Rank bad schoolboy type defending
Yes, got to defend the near post better than that
Carrick brought a negative game plan and we got what we deserved for thinking we could keep them out for 90 mins.
daft, he didn't come gung-ho, and but for a bad ref decision we might have been 2-0 up and out of site
Rubbish pen.
No conviction to it

Pi$$ poor attitude today
from who? I don't think it was lack of effort or attitude. Just some bad moments from Giles and Steffen and a poor pen, could easy have been 2-0 having kept them at arms length ad then just killed the game. Had a daft 10 mins where we made silly mistakes, and that is what cost us in the end

There's noway we'd be looking to spend money on signings in january of the club had 'written off' the season.

We were well beaten away from home by the team that I am absolutely sure will be automatically promoted, most likely as champions.

If we'd been given the penalty (which is about as nailed on as they get), then it may have been a very different result, but in truth they were much the better team.

Our season certainly won't be determined by today's result.
