* The Unofficial Tees - Wear "derby". Boro v Mackems match-day thread *

We weren’t poor, we were just tired so shut down. But we did that very successfully.

Game should have been over before we shut down mind, but we didn’t miss quite as much today, as other games.
Agree with that. Tired rather than poor. Unfortunately think we will pay for the poor last few days of transfer window.

Bad boy. There are loads of footie pubs just off the main square. The two I mentioned are full of bits.
If we had got in early enough, we would have looked, but straight in, fire up the lappy, crack the wine was order of the day. Arrived at 2005, bags off the belt at 2045 in the apartment 2100 local.

We've played much better and came away with nothing or 2 dropped points. Today we ground out the 3 points, got the bragging rights and kept a clean sheet.

Job done.

Wilder just said we didn't play at our best and won and said we had played better in other games and came away with nothing.

Norman, are you absolutely sure Chris_Boro is Wilder?

Ah I don’t mean in the middle of the pitch, you always have to do that, it’s unavoidable in modern football, I mean pressing in their half. Trying to win it further up the pitch, you can even do that with a 10 like McGree as he’s a good runner.

We were more half court press than full press. You don’t have to press as hard if you’re condensed in one half, as there’s less space to work with. Problem is when you win it you need to play out, we could could have done that a little better but we played back a bit, and then didn’t play forward, we launched it forward.

Not then end of the world though as we didn’t bomb out to chase it, and we sort of relied on their lack of creativity, and them missing Stewart.
Were on different wavelengths here Andy. We won the ball in Sunderland half over and over again first half. We pressed pretty hard. Had we lost those balls we had a long way back to defend.

Proper planning prevents **** poor performance my friend.

Overall I thought we were just about good value for the win. Think we needed it as well. Now we HAVE to show up in Blackpool before the international break and come away with something.

Best I've seen Fry play in a long time and Howson is crucial to the side. We will pay the price of a poor end to the window if Howson gets injured.

Great win for the mighty Boro 👍🏻 Some great individual performances i thought - Fry was immense and MOM for me, Jones and Giles tortured them down the flanks in that first half and Howson controlled midfield. I thought our high press was fantastic in that first hour, then you could visibly see us tire, which just underlined our need for more numbers in midfield in particular. We have no one to bring on that can effect the game, and it’s going to cost us unless we can get a couple of free agents in. I thought Crooks covered our right side admirably and did a lot of good work off the ball, and he also took one for the team with that booking when they were going to break on us. I have to say i thought Sunderland were very poor, other than that Pritchard chance early doors they never really hurt us, and I’ve never seen a team kick the ball out of play so many times with aimless long balls. Looking forward to what we can do now in this run of what look like, on paper at least, a few easier games

Clark had an absolute nightmare didn't he. I've always thought he looked half decent in the past but he was dreadful last night.

He's never a left wing back either.

Well marshalled by Jones who has looked out of sorts this season, up till last night, but his defensive duties have not been questioned, last night it all fell for Jones

What a fabulous night. Played 6/10 compared to our best and got the 3 points!
Best thing it was against that bunch of sour - faced gobby twits from the last stop at the end of the Newcastle Metro.
Poor baskits.
There was a few old songs resurrected I`d proppa forgot like
Singing "Tony Mowbray - hes one of our own" cracked us up.
Agent Tony.
Knew he wouldnt let us down (y)

Jones MOTM & he could have capped it of with a goal & an assist from their keeper
For me, I thought Fry just edged it.
Some of his defending, specially in the second half was crucial to keeping the three points.
Pin - point tackles, no daft fouls.
Crooks could learn from him(y)

Hi r00fie lad & TBH I couldnt disagree with you, I just thought Jones set the tone from the 1st minute with his running in to the mackems penalty area then doubling back on Clarke

Hello young fella.
Not the best game, but the most satisfying result.
Jones looked more like the lad we know
